1941 South American Championship
The sixteenth edition of the South American Championship was held in Santiago, Chile from 2 February to 4 March. With the purpose of celebrating the fourth centenary of Santiago's foundation by Pedro de Valdivia, Chile requested to host this tournament's edition. Because of that, this edition is considered ''extra'' (no trophy was handed to the winners). The participating countries were Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay. Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay withdrew from the tournament. Squads Venues Final round Each team played against each of the other teams. Juan Marvezzi
Juan Andrés Marvezzi (16 November 1915 - 4 April 1971) was an Argentine football striker, he played for Argentina was the top scorer in the Copa América 1941. He holds the record as Club Atlético Tigre's all-time top scorer, with 116 goals. Club career Marvezzi spent his early years with Argentino de Rosario and Bella Vista de Tucumán before joining Tigre in 1937, he played for the club until 1942 when he had a brief spell at Racing Club de Avellaneda before returning to Tigre in 1943. José Manuel Moreno
José Manuel Moreno Fernández (3 August 1916 — 26 August 1978), nicknamed "''El Charro''", was an Argentine footballer who played as an inside forward for several clubs in Argentina, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia; for many who saw him play, he is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, even among Diego Maradona, Pelé and Alfredo Di Stéfano, and was the first footballer ever to have won first division league titles in four countries (later players to emulate the feat include Jiri Jarosik, Rivaldo, George Weah and Zlatan Ibrahimović). Moreno was part of the River Plate team known as ''La Máquina'' ("The Machine") which dominated Argentine football in the 1940s, and was also a member of the Argentina national team that won the South American Championships in 1941 and 1947, being chosen in the latter tournament as the best player of the tournament. Schúbert Gambetta Saint Léon (14 April 1920 – 9 August 1991) was a Uruguayan footballer. He played as a half-back and was right-footed. Gambetta was a figure in the Maracanazo when he helped keep Zizinho and Ademir out of the game, which helped him to the 1950 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team. From 1940 to 1956, he played for Club Nacional de Football, winning the Uruguayan championship ten times and captaining the team. Luis Armando Contreras Reyes (15 June 1919 – 3 August 1991), known as Armando Contreras, was a Chilean footballer who played as a winger.
