1995 A-League
The 1995 A-League season was the sixth A-League season and first after being renamed from the American Professional Soccer League. The A-League was the de facto highest level of U.S. soccer (officially sanctioned U.S. second division) until Major League Soccer commenced the following year. Overview The league had ended its 1994 season with seven teams and intended to expand to ten for the 1995 season with new franchises in Detroit and Atlanta. These plans were stymied when the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Los Angeles Salsa and Toronto Rockets all folded. This left the league with only four teams. The addition of the New York Centaurs and Atlanta Ruckus gave the league six teams and allowed it to compete for another season. Training camps opened in March and the season began on May 5, 1995, when the Vancouver 86ers defeated the Atlanta Ruckus. American Professional Soccer League
The American Professional Soccer League (APSL) was a professional men's soccer league with teams from the United States and later Canada. It was formed in 1990 by the merger of the third American Soccer League with the Western Soccer League. It was the first outdoor soccer league to feature teams from throughout the United States since the demise of the North American Soccer League in 1984. The league was sanctioned as Division II in the United States soccer league system but was the country's '' de facto'' top professional soccer league until 1995. In 1993, the APSL applied for the vacant Division I role but lost out to Major League Soccer who would begin play in 1996. For its final two seasons in 1995 and 1996, the APSL changed its name to the A-League. Colorado Foxes
The Colorado Foxes were a professional men's soccer club originally based in Commerce City, Colorado, that played in the American Professional Soccer League (APSL) and USL A-League. Founded in 1990, the club moved to San Diego, California in 1998 and became the San Diego Flash, and later San Diego F.C., before folding in 2001. Lyndon Hooper (born May 30, 1966) is a Canadian former professional soccer player and former assistant coach of the Toronto Lynx soccer team of the United Soccer Leagues USL First Division, First Division. Michael Araujo
Michael Araujo is a retired South African soccer player who played professionally in South Africa, the United States, Canada and Ireland. Player Club career Araujo's parents moved from Portugal to South Africa where he was born. In 1986, Araujo entered the College of Boca Raton, now known as Lynn University. He played two seasons of NAIA soccer at Boca Raton, winning the 1987 NAIA national men's soccer championship. Araujo was also a 1987 NAIA Second Team All American. Mo Suri
Moises "Mo" Suri is a retired American soccer player. He played professionally in the National Professional Soccer League, A-League and USISL. In 1986, Suri, younger brother of Caleb Suri, turned professional with the Louisville Thunder of the American Indoor Soccer Association. That season, the Thunder won the AISA championship and Suri was named to the All Rookie Team. He moved to the Milwaukee Wave in 1987 and went on to play four seasons with them. Lenin Steenkamp (born 9 September 1969) is a South African football coach and player who spent his entire career in the United States. College In 1989, Steenkamp entered the College of Boca Raton on a soccer scholarship. Steenkamp was a 1989, 1991 and 1992 First Team NAIA All American soccer player.
