İzmit Körfez Circuit
İzmit Körfez Circuit () is a motor sports race track about west of İzmit, in Körfez district of Kocaeli Province, Turkey. Sponsored by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) and built by the Istanbul Motorsports Club (İMK), it was inaugurated in 1993 as the first asphalted race track in Turkey. The venue is home to motor sport races in various categories. Located at the northeastern coast of Marmara Sea, İzmit Körfez Circuit is situated around a small Fener Lake (Fenergölü), which belongs to the Municipality of Körfez District. The venue can be easily reached from Istanbul and İzmit by the motorway O-4 or highway D-100 at the exit Körfez. The race track, at length, has nine turns and runs clockwise. The circuit provides the greatest number of motor sport racing events in Turkey. Körfez (District), Kocaeli
Körfez, formerly known as Elaia, or Elaea, is a municipality and district of Kocaeli Province, Turkey. Its area is 301 km2, and its population is 178,048 (2022). The mayor is Şener Söğüt ( AKP) and the district governor is Uğur Kalkar, appointed in August 2022. The cement plant is a major source of greenhouse gas. History is located in the district. It was built in 1898 for the German Emperor Wilhelm's visit to the Ottoman Empire. The district Körfez was established in 1987 from parts of the central district of Kocaeli (now İzmit) and of the district of Gebze. At the same time, the municipality Yarımca was renamed to Körfez. It has borders with Şile to north, Derince from east, Dilovası from southwest and Gebze from west. İzmit () is a municipality and the capital Districts of Turkey, district of Kocaeli Province, Turkey. Its area is 480 km2, and its population is 376,056 (2022). The capital of Kocaeli Province, it is located at the Gulf of İzmit in the Sea of Marmara, about east of Istanbul, on the northwestern part of Anatolia. Istanbul Park
Istanbul Park (), also known as the TOSFED İstanbul Park, is a motor sports race track in the Tuzla, Istanbul, Tuzla district of Istanbul, Turkey. Designed by Hermann Tilke, it opened on 19–21 August 2005. It has been called "the best race track in the world" by former Formula One Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone, who held the managing rights of the circuit between 2007 and 2011. The circuit was then managed by the Turkish company Intercity since October 2012 to March 2024. After Intercity, the operator was firstly changed as Can Bilim Eğitim Kurumları A.Ş. in April 2024 for 30 years, however its tender rights was cancelled in December 2024 by the administrative court. Gulf Of Ä°zmit
Gulf of İzmit (), also referred to as İzmit Bay, is a bay at the easternmost edge of the Sea of Marmara, in Kocaeli Province, Turkey. The gulf takes its name from the city of İzmit. Other cities and towns around the bay are Gebze, Körfez, Gölcük, and Altınova. In the east–west direction, it extends for a length of about , while in the north–south direction its width varies from at the narrowest spots to about at its widest. The İzmit Bay Bridge is a suspension bridge that bridges the gulf. The North Anatolian Fault Zone, the most prominent active fault in Turkey and the source of numerous large earthquakes throughout history, passes through the Gulf of İzmit. Sinan SofuoÄŸlu
Sinan Sofuoğlu (15 July 1982 – 9 May 2008) was a Turkish motorcycle racer. Biography Part of the motorcycle racing Sofuoğlu family, he started racing at 15, and became drag champion in 1998. He continued his victories with championships won in Group B in 1999, and in Group A in the years 2001, 2002 and 2004. He finished the 2003 season in second. Sinan Sofuoğlu also won the Turkish championship in 2005. He had a single wild-card ride in the Turkish 250cc round of Moto GP at Istanbul Park in April 2006, where he qualified 26th with a time of 2:05.532 and finished 19th (and last finisher) with an overall time of 40:44.241 Sinan Sofuoğlu died on May 9, 2008, at the age of 25 in the intensive care unit of Kocaeli University Hospital following a motorcycle accident.
