Ürjar District
Uerzhar (, , ٷرجار اۋدانى) is a district of Abai Region in the eastern part of Kazakhstan, which borders with China. The administrative center of the district is the selo of Úrjar. Population: History Ancient History A stone sarcophagus was found in the region in the year 2013, revealing the remains of a woman which was most likely part of a local ruling family and that presumably lived in the 4th-3rd centuries BC within the area. Under the Russian Empire The area started to be administrated and settled in an official manner between 1905 and 1915. Under the Soviet Union The Soviets of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies first arrived in Urzhar in 1918, during the Russian Civil War, however the area was heavily disputed up until 1920 by the forces of the Russian "White Army". Russian Civil War
The Russian Civil War () was a multi-party civil war in the former Russian Empire sparked by the 1917 overthrowing of the Russian Provisional Government in the October Revolution, as many factions vied to determine Russia's political future. Semipalatinsk
Semey (; , formerly known as Semipalatinsk ( ) until 2007 and as Alash-Qala ( ) from 1917 to 1920, is a city in eastern Kazakhstan, in the Kazakh part of Siberia. When Abai Region was created in 2022, Semey became its administrative centre. It lies along the Irtysh River near the border with Russia, north of Almaty and southeast of the Russian city of Omsk. Its population is 312,764 (stat.gov.kz). History The first Russian settlement in the area dates from 1718, when Russia built a fort beside the river Irtysh, near the ruins of an ancient Buddhist monastery, where seven buildings could be seen. The fort (and later the city) was named ''Semipalatinsk'' ( Russian for "Seven-Chambered City") after the monastery. The fort suffered frequent flooding caused by snowmelt swelling the Irtysh. Makanshi District
Makanshi District (, ) is a district of Abai Region in eastern Kazakhstan. The administrative center of the district is the village of Makanshi. Population: 44,831 (1989 Census results). East Kazakhstan Region
East Kazakhstan Region (; ) is a region of Kazakhstan. It occupies the easternmost part of Kazakhstan, and includes parts of the Irtysh River, Lake Markakol, and Lake Zaysan. Its administrative center is Öskemen (also known as Ust'-Kamenogorsk). The region borders Altai Krai and Altai republic in Russia in the north and northeast and the People's Republic of China, via Xinjiang, in the south and southeast. The easternmost point of the Oblast is within about 50 kilometres of the westernmost tip of Mongolia; however, Kazakhstan and Mongolia do not share a common border, the two countries being separated by a small part of the China–Russia border. Independence Day of Kazakhstan (, , ), is the main national holiday of Kazakhstan, celebrated annually on 16 December. Significance In an attempt to keep unity within the Soviet Union, the country held a referendum on 16 March 1991; Kazakhstan voted 95% in favor of a new Union of Sovereign States. After the aborted coup d'état in August, the Supreme Soviet (Kazakhstan) passed the ''Constitutional Independence Law of Republic of Kazakhstan'' on 16 December 1991. Despite the swift collapse of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan was the last to declare its independence. A sarcophagus (: sarcophagi or sarcophaguses) is a coffin, most commonly carved in stone, and usually displayed above ground, though it may also be buried. Kazakhstan is divided into 17 regions (; ; ; ) and 4 cities. The regions are further subdivided into districts of Kazakhstan, districts (; ; ; ). The four cities, Almaty, Baikonur, Shymkent, and the capital city Astana, do not belong to their surrounding regions. Initially there were 14 regions. Village
