Lifson was born in Tel Aviv in 1914, into a family of Russian immigrants. While studying at the

In 1949, Lifson joined Katzir’s department at the Weizmann Institute, while at the same time pursuing doctoral studies at the

Lifson held numerous leading positions in research and education in Israel. He served as Scientific Director of the Weizmann Institute (1963–1967) and Dean of its Faculty of Chemistry (1972–1978).
