During 2003 Russian parliamentary election he was arrested for "election interference" and spent a month in pre-trial detention centre. In 2020, Russian authorities tightened up the 2015 regulations on protesting (permitted till that moment solitary pickets became an offence), foreign agents, and undesirable organizations.

trial. A few days later, due to increasing danger and because of virtual inability to fulfill his task of supporting political prisoners while in Russia, Davidis decided to leave the country with his wife, teenage daughter and family dog.
