Central Election Commission (Russia)
The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation (, abbr. ЦИК, ''TsIK''), also known as Tsentrizbirkom () is the superior power body responsible for conducting federal elections and overseeing local elections in the Russian Federation founded in September 1993. It consists of 15 members. The President of Russia, State Duma and Federation Council of Russia each appoint five members. In turn, these members elect the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretary. The Commission is in power for a four-year term. On 30 January 2007, amendments to the Russian election legislation, which would allow people without higher education in law to become members of the Central Election Commission, were passed by Vladimir Putin. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF; ) is a communist political party in Russia that officially adheres to Marxist–Leninist philosophy. It is the second-largest political party in Russia after United Russia. The youth organisation of the party is the Leninist Young Communist League. The CPRF can trace its origin to the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party which was established in March 1898. Grigory Yavlinsky
Grigory Alekseyevich Yavlinsky (; born 10 April 1952) is a Russian economist and politician. He has held numerous positions in the Soviet and Russian governments across different levels, including in the State Duma. Yavlinsky was one of authors of the 500 Days Program, a plan for the transition of the Soviet regime to a free-market economy, and is the former leader of the opposition Yabloko party. He has run three times for Russia's presidency. In 1996 he ran against Boris Yeltsin, finishing fourth with 7.3% of the vote. In 2000 Yavlinsky ran against Vladimir Putin, finishing third with 5.8%. In the 2012 presidential election he was prevented from running for president by Russian authorities, despite collecting the necessary 2 million signatures of Russian citizens for his candidacy. Mikhail Sergeyevich Kozlov (; born 27 October 1951), is a Russian statesman who was the acting Governor (Head) of Altai Krai in August 2005. This article contains the list of candidates associated with the 2018 Russian presidential election. 70 people – 46 independents and 24 party-nominated – informed the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Central Election Commission (CEC) that they intended to participate in the election as candidates. 1 January 2018 was the last day that independents could notify the CEC of their intent to participate. Independents had until the end of 7 January 2018 to file registration documents with the CEC, whilst for those nominated by parties the deadline was the end of 12 January. 36 people were nominated to participate in the election – 15 independents and 21 party-nominated candidates. Boris Borisovich Nadezhdin (; born 26 April 1963) is a Russian opposition politician. He served in the State Duma from 1999 to 2003. He was also a municipal councillor in Moscow and was considered to be a close ally of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov who was murdered. In November 2023, Nadezhdin announced his candidacy in the 2024 Russian presidential election. He was subsequently barred from running in the election by the Central Election Commission, which claimed to have found "irregularities" in signatures supporting his candidacy.
