The Service du film de recherche scientifique (SFRS) was established in 1995. Filmmaker Hervé Lièvre was the first director of SFRS, from 1995, and continued in the position through its later transition to CERIMES. A new website was created in September 2003, in which its name was displayed as SFRS–CERIMES, a name which persisted in citations to the organisation. It was an agency of the

The resources for which it was previously responsible, , BibNum, and the entire collection of documentaries would be transferred to the (FMSH), and the "Library Bookmarks" were taken over by (Abes).
