Early life

Tripp was born in Utah and spent his formative and teenage years playing competitive basketball. At 13 years old, he was chosen as of one of 10 participants across the United States to participate in Shaquille O'Neal's Hot Shots Camp. In high school, Tripp finished his prep career as one of the top leading scorers in the state of Utah. In the 2008-2009 season, Tripp ranked #3 among statewide leaders in points per game, behind future BYU all-time leading scorer Tyler Haws and future NBA first round draft pick CJ Wilcox. Robbie was recruited to continue his basketball career at the
