Gulzar was prosecuted for threatening Mel B and attacking her sister, Danielle. In August 2001, Gulzar was found guilty of the assault, but later cleared by the court.

Murphy told a journalist that the parentage of Mel B's then-unborn baby could not be proven until a paternity test was performed.
