Lurnea's population at the 2021 Australian census was 10,057, with 49.4% of people being born in Australia. The most common countries of birth were Iraq 10.2%, Lebanon 6.3%, Vietnam 3.4%, Fiji 2.1% and New Zealand 1.3%. 32.2% of people only spoke English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Arabic 32.1%, Vietnamese 4.7%, Serbian 1.8%, Hindi 1.7% and Spanish 1.6%. The most common responses for religion in Lurnea were Islam 28.9%, Catholic 18.4%, No Religion 10.3%, Not stated 9.4% and Miscellaneous Religions 8.6%.
