Messaging apps offer communication platforms that function on the

, while being limited and censored by government. The apps receive robust government support and funding. The state offers some electronic government services exclusively through the apps. The Iranian messaging apps were removed by Google Play Store Protect in 2022 after being tagged for spyware. The apps have been criticized by security experts for lacking security measures and infrastructure such as
