Despite a win on the last match day, HSV suffered relegation from the Bundesliga for the first time in its history on 12 May 2018. Before the last matchday, him and the club had agreed on a contract extension, keeping him at the club independent of the team's ability to stay in the Bundesliga. on 12 February 2021. Titz began with three defeats, but a streak of eleven unbeaten games, nine of which were victories, turned the team's fortunes around. This impressive run secured the team's position in the league on the penultimate matchday. In the 2021–22 season, the team continued its strong performance, emerging as an early favorite. From the seventh to the 38th matchday, Magdeburg held the top spot. By the 35th matchday, they had secured the championship and promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. The season concluded with 78 points, boasting a 14-point lead over second-placed
