In the aftermath of the 2001 insurgency some Macedonians from Čair moved to other Skopje urban areas such as nearby Butel. The neighborhood has a mixed population that includes minorities of Romani and Turks, yet Butel is associated with Albanians in North Macedonia. "Skopje is indeed spread over both sides of the Vardar river. Although the neighborhoods that lie northeast of the river (Butel, Čair/Çair, Gazi Baba, Suto Orizari) have mixed populations including representatives of the Turkish and Roma minorities, they tend to be associated with the Albanians.... Some people who used to live in the historically mixed area of Čair/Çair may have moved either to Butel (further North)"
