History

In 1999 the Queensland State Football League which previously oversaw Queensland's competition went into voluntary liquidation and the Queensland Australian Football Council was dissolved. A new governing body, AFL Queensland Limited was founded adopting the AFL brand due to formally affiliating with the

in Melbourne.
