Østbyen
Østbyen is a borough of the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The borough was established on 1 January 2005 in a municipal borough reform that reduced the number of boroughs in the city. The borough of Lerkendal lies to the southwest, Midtbyen lies to the northwest, and the municipality of Malvik lies to the east. Trondheimsfjorden lies to the north. The borough consists of the areas of Møllenberg, Nedre Elvehavn, Rosenborg, Lade, Strindheim, Brundalen, Charlottenlund, Jakobsli, Ranheim and Vikåsen. It has 39,171 residents. Nedre Elvehavn
Nedre Elvehavn is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is situated the borough of Østbyen, just on the east side of the river Nidelva (across the river from Midtbyen, although it is generally considered to be part of the city center). Nedre Elvehavn is within walking distance of the Midtbyen and Trondheim Central Station. The area is located north of the neighborhood of Bakklandet, west of Møllenberg, and south of Nyhavna. In the late 1990s, the borough went through a major renovation, resulting in a new and expensive area close to the city centre with business, shopping, restaurants, pubs, and housing. Almost all buses running from the east into town stop at Nedre Elvehavn, as does the commuter train service Trønderbanen at Lademoen Station. Ranheim
Ranheim is a neighbourhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Østbyen. The neighbourhood approximately to the east of the centre of Trondheim. It comprises Olderdalen, Væretrøa, Reppe, and Vikåsen. Historically, Ranheim is a working class community due to paper production at the local paper mill, where an overwhelming majority of Ranheim residents worked. Today, however, it is mostly middle class in composition and most residents work elsewhere. Ranheim Church was built 1933. Ranheim is home to Ranheim Idrettslag sportsclub and Ranheim Fotball. Ranheim was once known for its foul odour, commonly referred to as "Ranheimslukta," (the smell of Ranheim) which was caused by a paper processing byproduct, hydrogen sulfide. In recent years, the paper mill has become a paper recycling plant which has decreased the emission of sulfides. The characteristic smell has consequently disappeared. Rosenborg, Trondheim
Rosenborg () is a neighbourhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Østbyen. It is located east of Møllenberg, south of Lademoen, north of Tyholt, and west of Persaunet. The eastern part of Rosenborg also borders to Kristiansten Fortress and the surrounding park. The area is mostly residential, both houses and apartments. There is also a large amateur football arena that among others hosts the women's team Trondheims-Ørn. The area also has given name to the Norwegian Premier League team Rosenborg Ballklub, that now is located at Lerkendal. Lade, Trondheim
Lade (Old Norse: ''Hlaðir'') is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is in the borough of Østbyen, just northeast of the city centre of Midtbyen and north of the Lademoen neighborhood. Lade is located on a peninsula bordering the Trondheimsfjord, an important waterway dating back to the Viking Age. It is the site of the historic Lade estate ('' Lade gaard'') and of Lade Church (''Lade kirke''), which dates to around 1190. History Historically, the Lade estate (''Lade Storgård i Trondheim'') was the seat of the Jarls of Lade (''Ladejarler''), a dynasty of rulers of Trøndelag and Hålogaland who were influential from the 9th century to the 11th century. Lerkendal
Lerkendal () is a borough in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The borough was established on 1 January 2005 in a municipal borough reform that reduced the number of boroughs in the city. The borough of Østbyen lies to the east, Midtbyen lies to the northwest, and Heimdal lies to the southwest. The boroughs oversee health, welfare, and education for their residents. The borough is located south of Gløshaugen and Elgeseter, west of Berg, north of Tempe and mostly east of the river Nidelva. The area is dominated by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, SINTEF, and Lerkendal Stadion (the home stadium of Rosenborg).
