Underoath (stylized as Underøath or UnderOath) is an American rock band from Tampa, Florida. It was founded by lead vocalist Dallas Taylor and guitarist Luke Morton on November 30, 1997, in Ocala, Florida; subsequently, its additional members were from Tampa, including drummer, clean vocalist and last remaining core member Aaron Gillespie. The band's current lineup consists of Gillespie, keyboardist Christopher Dudley, lead guitarist Timothy McTague, bassist Grant Brandell, lead vocalist Spencer Chamberlain, and rhythm guitarist James Smith. ''Define the Great Line'' is the fifth album by American rock band Underoath. It was released on June 20, 2006, through Tooth & Nail Records. Five months after the release of their fourth studio album '' They're Only Chasing Safety'', the band were already in the process of working towards its follow-up. Recording took place between January and March 2006 at Zing Recording Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts, and Glow in the Dark Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage, Matt Goldman and the band as producers. ''Define the Great Line'' is predominantly a metalcore and emo album, which has also been tagged as Christian metal, post-metal and post-hardcore. The variety of styles was an unintentional move by the band, who took influence from At the Drive-In, Beloved and Cult of Luna, among others. ''They're Only Chasing Safety'' is the fourth album by American rock band Underoath. It was released on June 15, 2004, through Solid State Records. Following the release of their third studio effort '' The Changing of Times'' (2002), half of the band's members were replaced. After finalizing the line-up with vocalist Spencer Chamberlain, the band recorded their next release with producer James Paul Wisner at his home studio Wisner Productions in February 2004. The album has been tagged with various genres including screamo and melodic hardcore and features subtle references to Christianity. Drummer Aaron Gillespie had more of a vocal presence to contrast Chamberlain's screams. Before the album's release, Underoath undertook a tour with their labelmates and later with Eighteen Visions. ''Lost in the Sound of Separation'' is the sixth album by American rock band Underoath. It was released on September 2, 2008, through Solid State and Tooth & Nail Records. Following the release of their fifth studio album ''Define the Great Line'' (2006), relationships between members became strained to the point they almost broke up. They decided to go on a hiatus; ''Lost in the Sound of Separation'' was recorded at Glow in the Dark Studios in Atlanta, Georgia in March and April 2008. The band produced the album with Adam Dutkiewicz and Matt Goldman, both of whom worked on ''Define the Great Line''. Underoath is an American metalcore band from Tampa, Florida. Originally formed on November 30, 1997 by vocalist Dallas Taylor and guitarist Luke Morton, the first lineup of the group was completed with the addition of second guitarist Corey Steger, bassist Rey Anasco and drummer Aaron Gillespie. Anasco was soon replaced by Octavio Fernandez. Following the departure of Morton in early 1999, Underoath signed to Takehold Records and released its debut album '' Act of Depression''. The band followed up its debut a year later with '' Cries of the Past'', which featured new members Matthew Clark on bass (Fernandez moved to rhythm guitar) and Christopher Dudley on keyboards. Clark was replaced by Billy Nottke in 2001 and later Grant Brandell in January 2002, while Timothy McTague took over from the departing Steger, who died in March 2021, aged 42, in a car accident. Aaron Roderick Gillespie (born July 18, 1983) is an American musician, best known for being the original and current drummer and clean vocalist for the metalcore band Underoath and the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the alternative rock band the Almost. Spencer Chamberlain (born January 4, 1983) is an American musician, best known for being the current lead vocalist for the metalcore band Underoath. Before fronting Underoath, Chamberlain was the vocalist for the band This Runs Through in which his brother, Phil Chamberlain, was the drummer (who is also the drummer for To Speak of Wolves). Background Spencer Chamberlain was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his mother, and older brother, Phil (also a musician as the drummer for Sullivan and To Speak of Wolves). As a child, Chamberlain's family was well-to-do and had enough money to pay tuition at Greensboro Day School. Chamberlain's parents divorced when he was in elementary school at Greensboro Day School. ''Cries of the Past'' is the second studio album by American rock band Underoath, released on July 4, 2000, through Takehold Records. Only 3,000 copies of the album were pressed and, like '' Act of Depression'', it was out of print for years. The album is the last to feature guitarist Corey Steger and the first to include keyboardist Christopher Dudley. Alongside their debut album, this album was reissued through Solid State Records on August 20, 2013. This is the band's last album to be released through Takehold Records, as the label was bought by Solid State. Musical content and style The second and third song are out of order from the list on the jacket, with "Giving Up Hurts the Most" as the actual second track, while "Walking Away" is the third. Maylene and the Sons of Disaster is an American heavy metal band from Birmingham, Alabama. The group were founded in 2004, shortly after vocalist Dallas Taylor's departure from Underoath. In 2005, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster signed to Mono Vs Stereo and released their self-titled debut album. The band name and concept are based on the legend of the criminal gang of Ma Barker and her sons, noting that evil lifestyles will be met with divine justice. Dallas Taliaferro Taylor (born May 17, 1980) is an American musician who is the vocalist for the heavy metal band Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. He is the former vocalist and founder of the American metalcore band Underoath. He performed on three Underoath albums: '' Act of Depression'', '' Cries of the Past'', and '' The Changing of Times''.
