The Zutons
The Zutons are an English indie rock band formed in Liverpool, in 2002. The band currently consists of Dave McCabe (vocals, guitar), Abi Harding (saxophone), Jay Lewis (guitar), Neil Bradley (keyboards) and Tim Cunningham (bass). The band's debut album, '' Who Killed...... The Zutons?'', was released in April 2004. With the release of their second studio album, '' Tired of Hanging Around'' (2006), the band achieved UK chart success with the singles, " Why Won't You Give Me Your Love?" and " Valerie", both of which reached number 9 on the UK Singles Chart. Founding guitarist Boyan Chowdhury left the band in 2007 and was replaced by Paul Molloy for their third studio album, '' You Can Do Anything'', which was released in June 2008. The Big Decider
''The Big Decider'' is the fourth studio album by English rock band the Zutons, released on 26 April 2024 through Icepop. It is the band's first album in 16 years, following '' You Can Do Anything'' (2008), their disbandment the following year, and reformation in 2018. The album was produced by Ian Broudie, Nile Rodgers, and band member Sean Payne; further, it was promoted with a tour of the UK in early 2024. It received generally positive reviews from critics. Critical reception ''The Big Decider'' received a score of 80 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic based on four critics' reviews, which the website categorised as "generally favorable" reception. The Coral
The Coral are an English rock band, formed in 1996 in Hoylake on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside. The band emerged during the early 2000s. Their 2002 debut album ''The Coral (album), The Coral'', from which came the single "Dreaming of You (The Coral song), Dreaming of You", was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and listed as the fourth best album of the year by ''NME''. Alan Wills (record Label Founder)
Alan Wills (12 June 1961 – 11 May 2014) was a British record label owner and drummer. He was known for founding Deltasonic, a record label based in Liverpool that signed bands including The Coral and The Zutons. As a musician he played in The Wild Swans, Shack, Top, and the Lotus Eaters. For his work with The Coral he was named one of the Managers of the Year in 2003 by the Music Managers Forum. Early life Wills was born in Anglesey, Wales on 12 June 1961, and grew up in the Cemaes area of the county. According to ''Music Week'', Will's father was "in charge of the UK's nuclear early warning system". Saxophone
The saxophone (often referred to colloquially as the sax) is a type of single-reed woodwind instrument with a conical body, usually made of brass. The Stands
The Stands were an English people, English alternative rock band, formed in 2002 in Liverpool. The band was composed of singer-songwriter Howie Payne, guitarist Luke Thomson, bassist Dean Ravera and drummer Steve Pilgrim (musician), Steve Pilgrim. They released two albums, before Pilgrim and Thomson left the band following the release of their second album. The band toured the album with drummer Graeme Robinson and guitarist Paul Molloy. Howie Payne
Howard Elliot Payne (born 5 November 1970) is an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer, formerly of the Stands. Following the Stands' split, Payne embarked on a solo career under the name Howard Eliott Payne and released his debut album '' Bright Light Ballads'' in 2009. Early career Payne was born in Liverpool and spent some of his teenage years in New York City before returning home with his family and forming The Magic Clock in 1992 before fronting later bands the Windmills (with future Cast drummer Keith O'Neill), Telefone and Blueseed. The Stairs
The Stairs are an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1990 by vocalist and bassist Edgar "Summertyme" Jones, guitarist Ged Lynn and drummer Paul Maguire. The band released one album and a handful of singles, prior to Lynn's departure in 1993 and their eventual split the following year. The Stairs reformed in 2015, playing a one-off gig at The Kazimier in Liverpool before announcing a 2016 UK tour and headline appearance at the Le Beat Bespoké festival in London. Edgar Jones (musician)
Edgar William Jones (born 4 December 1970), also known as Edgar Summertyme, is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Jones was originally the bass player and singer-songwriter for the Stairs and has since formed and fronted the Isrites, The Big Kids, Edgar Jones & the Joneses and Free Peace. He has also played as a session musician for several artists, including Ian McCulloch, Paul Weller, Saint Etienne and Ocean Colour Scene. Career Early career: to 1994 Jones was born in Liverpool. Zoot Horn Rollo
Bill Harkleroad (born January 8, 1949), known professionally as Zoot Horn Rollo, is an American guitarist. He is best known for his work with Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band. In 2003, he was ranked No. 62 in a ''Rolling Stone'' magazine list of "the 100 greatest guitarists of all time". Early life Born in Hawthorne, California, Harkleroad was trained as an accordionist as a child but changed to guitar in his teens. Captain Beefheart
Don Van Vliet (; born 'Don Glen Vliet'; January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. Conducting a rotating ensemble known as the Magic Band, he recorded 13 studio albums between 1967 and 1982. His music blended elements of blues, free jazz, rock music, rock, and avant-garde music, avant-garde composition with idiosyncratic rhythms, absurdism, absurdist wordplay, and Vliet’s gravelly singing voice with a wide vocal range.
