The Voice (TV Series)
''The Voice'' is an international reality television singing competition franchise originally created by Dutch producer John de Mol Jr. and Dutch singer Roel van Velzen. It has become a rival to the '' Idol'' franchise, '' The Four'', '' Rising Star'' and ''The X Factor''. The owner of the franchise was Talpa Network up until 2020 and ITV Studios ever since. Originating from the reality singing competition '' The Voice of Holland'', many other countries adapted the format and began airing their own versions starting in 2010. Up till now, seven different versions of ''The Voice'' have been produced by countries/regions all around the world. Some programs still stick to the original format of the show while most of them are produced with twists of the format added. John De Mol Jr
Johannes Hendrikus Hubert "John" de Mol Jr. is a Dutch media proprietor. De Mol is one of the men behind production companies Endemol and Talpa. He created the reality television formats '' Big Brother'', '' Star Academy'' and'' The Voice'', and the game shows ''Fear Factor'' and '' Deal or No Deal''. ''Forbes'' estimated him to be worth about US$1.8 billion in 2023. Endemol De Mol acquired his fortune producing television programmes. From 1997 to 1999, he developed the popular reality television series '' Big Brother'' with his production company, John de Mol Produkties. In 1994, his company merged with Joop van den Ende TV-Producties into Endemol, but it still functioned on its own. ''Big Brother'' is a reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999 and subsequently syndicated internationally. The show features contestants called "housemates" or "HouseGuests" who live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. The name is inspired by Big Brother (Nineteen Eighty-Four), Big Brother from George Orwell's novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four'', and the housemates are continuously monitored during their stay in the house by live television cameras as well as personal audio microphones. The Voice Of Holland (season 5)
The fifth season of the Dutch reality singing competition The Voice of Holland, created by media tycoon John de Mol, aired during 2014 on RTL4. Martijn Krabbé and Wendy van Dijk returned as co-hosts, while Jamai Loman replaced Winston Gerschtanowitz as host of the red room. Marco Borsato, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Ilse DeLange and Ali B returned as coaches. One of the important premises of the show is the quality of the singing talent. Four coaches, themselves popular performing artists, train the talents in their group and occasionally perform with them. Talents are selected in blind auditions, where the coaches cannot see, but only hear the auditioner. Blind Audition
In a blind audition, the identity of the performer is concealed from the judges to prevent bias. The performance takes place behind a curtain so the judges cannot see the performer. Blind auditions have become a standard in symphony orchestras. In the 1970s, jazz bassist and clinical psychologist Art Davis unsuccessfully filed suit against the New York Philharmonic for racial discrimination. Although his suit failed, his efforts have been credited for helping pave the way to the current system of blind auditions for orchestras. In 1980, American trombonist Abbie Conant was selected in a blind audition as the overwhelming first choice for Principal Trombonist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra but was subsequently subjected to sexism by the director Sergiu Celibidache. ''Star Academy'' is a Dutch-developed reality television talent show format that first aired in the Netherlands as '':nl:Starmaker (televisieprogramma), Star Maker''. Format There are many versions of the show, each country having its own slight variations, but the basic concept remains the same: contestants live in a boarding-school called "The Academy", managed by a director, and various teachers coach them in several artistic disciplines. Nick & Simon
Nick & Simon were a Dutch singer-songwriter duo composed of Simon Keizer and Nick Schilder. They became popular in their home country the Netherlands in 2006. Their album ''Luister'' (''Listen'') reached double platinum status in four months. In June 2011 they tried to find "the American Dream" in their TV documentary show, ''Nick & Simon, The American Dreamteam''.
