A supergroup is a musical group formed of members who are already successful as solo artists or as members of other successful groups. The term became popular in the late 1960s when members of already successful rock groups Collaborative_album, recorded albums together, after which they normally disbanded. Questlove
Ahmir K. Thompson (born January 20, 1971), known professionally as Questlove (stylized as ), is an American drummer, record producer, disc jockey, filmmaker, music journalist, and actor. He is the drummer and joint frontman (with Black Thought) for the hip-hop band the Roots. The Roots have been the in-house band for ''The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'' since 2014, after having fulfilled the same role on '' Late Night with Jimmy Fallon''. Questlove is also one of the producers of the 2015 cast album of the Broadway musical ''Hamilton''. He has also co-founded the websites Okayplayer and OkayAfrica. James Jason Poyser (b. January 30, 1967) is an American record producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has been a member of the hip hop band The Roots since 2009, and plays with The Roots in the house band for ''The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'' and formerly, ''Late Night with Jimmy Fallon''. Early life and career Poyser was born in Sheffield, England to Jamaican parents, and raised in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ''Coming to America'' is a 1988 American romantic comedy film directed by John Landis, based on a story originally created by Eddie Murphy, written by David Sheffield and Barry W. ''Motown Remixed'' is a 2005 compilation album containing remixed versions of Motown hits, released on May 24, 2005 by Motown/Universal Records. Several hip hop and dance producers, including Z-Trip, DJ Jazzy Jeff, the Randy Watson Experience, Salaam Remi, Groove Boutique (aka DJ Rafe Gomez and David Baron), and Easy Mo Bee, took hit records by the Jackson 5, the Temptations, the Supremes, and others, and re-imagined them in new styles. "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for Gladys Knight & the Pips and released as a single in September 1967. It went to number one on the ''Billboard'' R&B Singles chart and number two on the ''Billboard'' Pop Singles chart and shortly became the biggest selling Motown single up to that time. The Miracles were the first to record the song in 1966, but their version was not released until August 1968 when it was included on their album ''Special Occasion (The Miracles album), Special Occasion''. The Marvin Gaye version was the second to be recorded in the beginning of 1967 but the third to be released.
