The Mountain School Of Arts
The Mountain School of Arts, or MSA^, is an alternative pedagogical model based in Los Angeles that provides a tuition-free, community-based education. Founded in 2005 by artists Piero Golia and Eric Wesley, it is the oldest continuous artist-run school in California. MSA^ is often cited as one of the most successful examples of an art school that exists outside of the Educational Industrial Complex, along with the Whitney Museum of American Art's Independent Study Program (ISP). The development of the school and its program have been written about as "follow nga poetic of the gesture, of the instant, and of actions recalling Fluxus, Gino de Dominicis’ or Paul McCarthy’s works." Pierre Huyghe
Pierre Huyghe (born 11 September 1962) is a French contemporary artist, who works in a variety of media from films and sculptures to public interventions and living systems. He lives and works in Santiago de Chile. Early life and education Pierre Huyghe (pronounced ''hweeg'') was born in Paris in 1962. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs in Paris, and graduated in 1985. Exhibitions Huyghe participated in the Okayama Summit in 2016, and was the event's artistic director in 2019. In an interview in Ocula Magazine with Stephanie Bailey, Huyghe explained that he chose 'artists who construct worlds that have the capacity to endlessly change, rather than as makers of things'. Noah Davis (painter)
Noah Davis (June 3, 1983 – August 29, 2015), was an American painter and installation artist. In 2012, Davis and his wife, sculptor Karon Om Vereen–Davis, founded the Underground Museum in Los Angeles. When talking about his work, Davis said, "If I’m making any statement, it’s to just show black people in normal scenarios, where drugs and guns are nothing to do with it," and described his work as "instances where black aesthetics and modernist aesthetics collide." Davis died at his home in Ojai, California, on August 29, 2015, of a rare form of soft tissue cancer.
