The Jerks
The Jerks is a rock band from the Philippines formed in 1979, and perhaps, is the original alternative rock and blues band in the country. The band has undergone a lot of member changes and notably a lot of the previous members of the band are now certified icons themselves in the music scene. Members like Chickoy Pura, Nitoy Adriano, Jun Lopito, Angelo Villegas, and others have carved names in their respective niches. Other performers who have played with the Jerks are former Put3ska drummer Brutus Lacano as a session musician, and drummer Benjie Santos. Despite having been formed in 1979, they only released their debut record in 1994 entitled ''The Jerks Live'', released under Gary Granada's Backdoor Records. Mayric's was a concert events venue in Manila that featured new and upcoming artists in the Philippine music scene since the early 80s. It helped launch the career of many Filipino artists or, at the least, served as a regular venues for their live performances. Wolfgang is a Filipino rock band formed in January 1992 in Manila. The group is notable for being the only Filipino rock band to release albums in both Japan and the United States and for realizing Platinum record sales in their home country. After ten years, the original lineup split in 2002. Wolfgang reformed in 2007 with a new drummer. DWNU, a radio station in Mega Manila, was broadcasting from 1987 to 2010 as NU 107 that played mainly rock music. It was owned by Progressive Broadcasting Corporation. The station's last studio was located at the ground floor of AIC Gold Tower, F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig. The NU Rock Awards was an annual accolade presented from 1994 to 2010 by the Metro Manila-based radio station NU 107, known for prominent performances by the most influential pinoy rock artists of each year. Gary Gamutan Granada (born 1960 in Maco, Davao de Oro) is a well-known Filipino musician, composer, poet, and singer-songwriter known for writing songs which have strong political themes. He is also a tutor at the University of the Philippines, a union organizer, broadcaster, voice talent, and a board member in several organizations. Early life Granada was born in 1960 to mother Cristina Gamutan (a dressmaker) and father Ireneo (a fisherman). Growing up, he took a number of odd jobs to help support the presumably feeble family income.
