The Cult
The Cult are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Bradford in 1983. Before settling on their current name in January 1984, the band had performed under the name Death Cult, which was an evolution of the name of lead vocalist Ian Astbury's previous band Southern Death Cult. They gained a dedicated following in the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s as a post-punk and gothic rock band, with singles such as "She Sells Sanctuary", before breaking into the mainstream in the United States in the late 1980s establishing themselves as a hard rock band with singles such as "Love Removal Machine". Since its initial formation in 1983, the band have had various line-ups: the longest-serving members are Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, who are also their two main songwriters. Ramblin' Man Fair was a British Classic Rock festival, held annually at Mote Park in Maidstone, England, between 2015 and 2019. Ian Astbury
Ian Robert Astbury (born 14 May 1962) is an English singer, best known as the lead vocalist, frontman and a founding member of the rock band the Cult. During various hiatuses from the Cult, Astbury fronted the short-lived band Holy Barbarians (band), Holy Barbarians in 1996, and later from 2002 to 2007 served as the lead singer of Manzarek–Krieger, Riders on the Storm, a Doors (band), Doors tribute band that also featured original Doors members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. Astbury replaced Rob Tyner during an MC5 reunion in 2003, and has contributed guest vocals on several recordings by other artists. Matt Sorum
Matthew William Sorum (born November 19, 1960) is an American drummer. He is best known as both a former member of the hard rock band Guns N' Roses, with whom he recorded three studio albums, and as a member of the supergroup Velvet Revolver. Sorum is currently on tour with Billy Gibbons, with whom he also records, is a member of the touring project Kings of Chaos, and is a former member of both The Cult and Y Kant Tori Read. Sorum was also a member of Guns N' Roses side projects, Slash's Snakepit and Neurotic Outsiders, and has released two solo albums, '' Hollywood Zen'' (2004) and ''Stratosphere'' (2014). Mickey Curry
Michael Timothy Curry (born June 10, 1956) is an American drummer. He has collaborated with singer-songwriter Bryan Adams since the early 1980s, but has also worked with Hall & Oates, Cher, Tina Turner, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Sam Phillips, Tom Waits, Survivor, The Cult and Steve Jones. Early life Mickey Curry was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He started playing drums at age 11 under the tutelage of Nick Forte. Eric Singer
Eric Singer (born Eric Doyle Mensinger; May 12, 1958) is an American drummer. Associated with the hard rock band Kiss on and off from 1991 until the band's retirement in 2023, he has also performed with artists such as Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Lita Ford, Badlands, Brian May and Gary Moore as well as his own band ESP. Kid Chaos, also known as Haggis (born Stephen Harris) is a British rock bassist and guitarist who played in incarnations of hard rock bands Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, The Cult and The Four Horsemen as well as guesting with ''Appetite for Destruction'' era Guns N' Roses. History Harris was born in 1966, in Swansea, Wales. He joined his first group, The Autonomes, at age 13. At 16, he failed most of his O-levels and left school. Mark Brzezicki
Mark Michael Brzezicki ( , ; born 21 June 1957) is an English musician, best known as the former drummer of the Scottish rock band Big Country. He has also played with Procol Harum, Casbah Club, The Cult, and From the Jam. Biography Brzezicki first played on two singles with the band On the Air featuring bass player Tony Butler and Simon Townshend in 1980. Brzezicki quickly developed to become a session drummer and he played on the track " A Little Is Enough" on Pete Townshend's '' Empty Glass'' album from 1980. Nigel Preston
Nigel Preston (4 April 1963, Birmingham, England – 1 April 1992) was an English drummer. He was a founding member of the Cult. He also played and recorded with Theatre of Hate, Sex Gang Children, the Baby Snakes, the Gun Club and DeLuca. He appeared on ''Top of the Pops'' for the first time with Theatre of Hate in 1982, playing their Top 40 single "Do You Believe in the West World". He played on Sex Gang's 1983 single " Mauritia Mayer", then switched places with Death Cult's drummer Ray Mondo that September. His biggest hit was " She Sells Sanctuary" by the Cult from their ''Love'' album. Recorded in March 1985, the song was released as their fourth single and hit No. 15 in the UK Singles Chart. Ray Mondo
Raymond Taylor-Smith (born in Sierra Leone) was a drummer for several notable British post-punk and gothic rock groups during the early 1980s. He is best known by his stage name, Ray Mondo. Biography Ray Mondo first appeared on the British music scene when he joined the Harrow-based post-punk group Ritual upon its formation in 1981. He drummed for the group for nearly two years, appearing on both of their records, the " Mind Disease" single and ''Kangaroo Court'' EP. During this period, he was going simply by "Ray". In March 1983, Ritual dissolved. Mondo was recruited by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy in April 1983 to drum for their newly formed group Death Cult. Jamie Stewart (English Musician)
James Alec Stewart (born 31 January 1964) is a retired British musician who was the bassist of the post-punk/hard rock band The Cult. He recorded on The Cult's first four albums, ''Dreamtime'', ''Love'', ''Electric'' and ''Sonic Temple''. Early life Stewart was born in Harrow, Middlesex, on 31 January 1964. His mother, Myra (née Kidd), was a dancer with the International Ballet, and his father, Donald Stewart, was a violinist with the London Symphony Orchestra. Performance career Stewart's musical career began playing guitar in Harrow-based band Ritual. Ritual gigged extensively in London's gothic rock/post-punk scene but rarely outside. Mike Mangan (musician)
Mike Mangan is an American keyboard player, vocalist, songwriter, composer and harmonica player from Los Angeles, California, United States, who specializes in the Hammond B3 Organ. Mangan is known for his percussive playing technique and his use of effects pedals on the Hammond Organ. Mike Mangan is the current Keyboardist & Back Up Vocalist in The Cult. Mangan is also known for his bands 'Big Organ Trio', which he formed in Los Angeles, CA in 2003, and 'Rebel House Radio', which he formed in 2015. Mangan also currently plays with Gilby Clarke in his band 'The Keef Richards' and is the former touring Hammond Organist for Glenn Hughes. Big Organ Trio is an instrumental power trio consisting of Hammond B3 Organ, electric Bass, and Drums.
