Stichtite
Stichtite is a mineral, a Carbonate mineral, carbonate of chromium and magnesium; formula Mg6Cr2carbon, Coxygen, O3(Ohydrogen, H)16·4water, H2O. Its colour ranges from pink through lilac to a rich purple colour. It is formed as an alteration product of chromite-containing Serpentine group, serpentine. It occurs in association with barbertonite (the Hexagonal crystal system, hexagonal Polymorphism (materials science), polymorph of Mg6Cr2CO3(OH)16·4H2O), chromite and antigorite. Discovered in 1910 on the west coast of Tasmania, Australia, it was first recognised by A.S. Wesley a former chief chemist with the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, it was named after Robert Carl Sticht the manager of the mine. Barbertonite
Barbertonite is a magnesium chromium carbonate mineral with formula of . It is Polymorphism (materials science), polymorphous with the mineral stichtite and, along with stichtite, is an alteration product of chromite in serpentinite. Barbertonite has a close association with stichtite, chromite, and antigorite (Taylor, 1973). Mills et al. (2011) presented evidence that barbertonite is a polytype of stichtite and should be discredited as a mineral species. Serpentine subgroup (part of the kaolinite-serpentine group in the category of phyllosilicates) are greenish, brownish, or spotted minerals commonly found in serpentinite. They are used as a source of magnesium and asbestos, and as decorative stone. The name comes from the greenish color and smooth or scaly appearance from the Latin , meaning "snake-like". Cunningsburgh, formerly also known as Coningsburgh ( meaning "King's castle"), is a new hamlet and ancient parish in the south of Mainland, Shetland, Scotland. The hamlet is on the coast, nine miles south south west of Lerwick, about halfway between there and Sumburgh Head. The parish was merged with Dunrossness and Sandwick in 1891. It is on the A970 road.
