Religious satire is a form of satire that refers to religious beliefs and can take the form of texts, plays, films, and parody. George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008) was an American stand-up comedian, social critic, actor and author. Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential comedians of all time, he was dubbed "the dean of counterculture comedians". He was known for his black comedy, dark comedy and reflections on politics, the English language, psychology, religion and taboo subject matter. Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 – 11 May 2001) was an English author, humorist, and screenwriter, best known as the creator of ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy''. Theodoor "Theo" van Gogh (; 23 July 1957 – 2 November 2004) was a Dutch film director. David Tynan O'Mahony (6 July 193610 March 2005), known professionally as Dave Allen, was an Irish comedian, satirist, and actor. He was best known for his observational comedy. Lucian of Samosata (Λουκιανὸς ὁ Σαμοσατεύς, 125 – after 180) was a Hellenized Syria (region), Syrian satire, satirist, rhetorician and pamphleteer who is best known for his characteristic tongue-in-cheek style, with which he frequently ridiculed superstition, religious practices, and belief in the paranormal. Patrick Condell (born 23 November 1949) is a British writer, polemicist, and former stand-up comedian.
