Running up the score (or " piling on") is a sports strategy that occurs when a winning team continues to play in such a way as to score additional points after the outcome of the game is beyond doubt. More sportsmanlike alternatives might include pulling out most of the team's first-string players, or calling plays designed to run out the clock (''e.g.'', in American football, kneeling or running the ball up the middle). Mercy rules are used in some amateur sports, which end the game when the score differential reaches a certain point. Bruce Noel Coslet (born August 5, 1946) is an American former professional football player and coach. A tight end, he played for the University of the Pacific and in 1969 debuted with the American Football League (AFL)'s Cincinnati Bengals. Bobby Bowden
Robert Cleckler Bowden (; November 8, 1929 β August 8, 2021) was an American college football coach. Bowden coached the Florida State Seminoles of Florida State University (FSU) from 1976 to 2009 and is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time for his accomplishments with the Seminoles. During his time at Florida State, Bowden led FSU to consensus national championships in 1993 and 1999, as well as twelve Atlantic Coast Conference championships once FSU joined the conference in 1991. Bowden's Seminoles finished as an AP top-5 team for 14 consecutive seasons, setting a record which doubled the closest program. However, the program weakened during the mid-2000s, and after a difficult 2009 season Bowden was forced to retire just weeks after his 80th birthday. Goal difference, goal differential or points difference is a form of tiebreaker used to rank sport teams which finish on equal points in a league competition. The 2006 Insight Bowl was a college football bowl game, the 18th edition of the Insight Bowl. It was played on December 29 at Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, pitting the Texas Tech Red Raiders against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Texas Tech, after falling behind 38β7 with 7:47 remaining in the third quarter, rallied to score 31 unanswered points to send the game to overtime.
