The pin-striped tit-babbler (''Mixornis gularis''), also known as the yellow-breasted babbler, is a species of bird in the Old World babbler family Timaliidae that is found in South Asia, South and Southeast Asia. Taxonomy and systematics The pin-striped tit-babbler was species description, formally described in 1822 by the American naturalist Thomas Horsfield based on a specimen collected in Sumatra. He coined the binomial name ''Timalia gularis''. The pin-striped tit-babbler was formerly placed in the genus ''Macronus'' but based on the results of a large molecular phylogenetic study published in 2019, the species was moved to the genus ''Mixornis'' that had been introduced in 1842 by the English zoologist Edward Blyth. The genus name combines the Ancient Greek ''mixis'' meaning "mixed" or "mingling" with ''ornis'' meaning "bird". The specific epithet ''gularis'' is Neo-Latin, Modern Latin meaning "-throated". The Mergui Archipelago (also Myeik Archipelago or ''Myeik Kyunzu''; ) is located in far southern Myanmar (Burma) and is part of the Tanintharyi Region. Tanintharyi Region (, ; Mon: or ; formerly Tenasserim Division and Tanintharyi Division) is a region of Myanmar, covering the long narrow southern part of the country on the northern Malay Peninsula, reaching to the Kra Isthmus. Herbert Girton Deignan
Herbert Girton Deignan (December 5, 1906 – March 15, 1968) was an American ornithologist who worked extensively on the birds of Thailand. Deignan was born in New Jersey, the son of Harry Francis and Anna Galena. He grew up in Pennsylvania and schooled in Mercersburg Academy before going to Princeton where he graduated with an Arts Baccalaureate in 1928. He became interested in birds early on and got in contact with Charles H Rogers, curator of the Princeton collections. He became interested in Thailand (Siam) and after graduating he took up a position in the Chiangmai college in northern Siam as a teacher of English. He stayed there from 1928 to 1932, collecting birds in the region that he sent back to Charles Rogers at Princeton. Deignan returned to the United States in 1932. He held a temporary assignment at the US National Museum thanks to Alexander Wetmore. Pierre Charles Edmond Jabouille (25 November 1875 – 15 May 1947) was a French colonial administrator in Indochina and took an interest in the ornithology of the region, describing numerous new species. Jabouille was born in Saintes, Département Charente-Maritime, son of a judge and later chairman of the cabinet of the prefecture of Calvados department Louis Arthur Jabouille (1842-1887) and Emma Jenny née Lejeune. Jean Théodore Delacour (26 September 1890 – 5 November 1985) was a French ornithologist and aviculturist. He later became American. He was renowned for not only discovering but also rearing some of the rarest birds in the world. He established very successful aviaries twice in his life, stocked with birds from around the world, including those that he obtained on expeditions to Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. His first aviary in Villers-Bretonneux was destroyed in World War One. The second one that he established at Clères was destroyed in World War Two. He moved to the United States of America where he worked on avian systematics and was one of the founders of the International Committee for Bird Protection (later BirdLife International). One of the birds he discovered was the imperial pheasant, later identified as a hybrid between the Vietnamese pheasant and the silver pheasant.
