Metagene
In the DC Universe, a metahuman is a human with Superpower (ability), superpowers. The term is roughly synonymous with the terms ''Mutant (Marvel Comics), mutant'', ''Inhumans, inhuman'' and '':Marvel Comics mutates, mutate'' in the Marvel Universe and ''posthuman'' in the Wildstorm and Ultimate Marvel Universes. In DC Comics, the term is used loosely in most instances to refer to any Anthropomorphism, human-like individual with extraordinary, often Paranormal, paranormal abilities or other attributes, regardless of whether or not they are cosmic, mutant, scientific, Supernatural, supernatural, skill-based or technological in nature. A significant portion of these are normal human beings born with a genetic variant called the "metagene", which causes them to gain powers and other paranormal qualities during freak accidents or times of intense psychological distress, effectively making them a subspecies of superhumans living within the population. Dominators (DC Comics)
The Dominators, collectively known as the Dominion, are a fictional character alien race appearing in comics and other media by DC Comics. Coming from the outer cosmos of the DC Universe, they are highly technologically advanced, and live in a rigid hierarchical society, in which one's caste is determined by the size of a red circle on one's forehead. They are master geneticists who can manipulate the metagene to enhance members of their own caste. Publication history The Dominators first appeared in ''Adventure Comics'' #361 (1967), written by Jim Shooter with art by Curt Swan and Jim Mooney, in which they are presented as possibly dangerous to the Legion of Super-Heroes, but do not pose an actual threat. They appeared again in ''Legion of Super-Heroes'' #241–245 in the late 1970s, as an adversarial race in an interstellar conflict with Earth in the 30th century.
