Maris Ayin
''Mar'it-ayin'' ( Mish.: מַרְאִית הָעַיִן; Modern 'appearance to the eye'; Ashkenazic transliteration: ''maris ayin''), is a concept in halakha (Jewish law) which prohibits certain actions which might to observers to be in violation of Jewish law, even if they are in fact permissible, in order to prevent onlookers from drawing false conclusions. For example, according to the Torah law, the blood of an animal is forbidden to eat, but the blood of fish is permissible. However, according to the principle of ''marit ayin'', it is forbidden to eat the blood of fish, as an onlooker might believe the blood is from an animal, and mistakenly conclude that eating animal blood is allowed. According to Ovadia Yosef, former chief Sephardic rabbi of Israel, ''marit ayin'' applies only when the onlooker might mistakenly interpret the action as violating a law given in the Torah. Mishnaic Hebrew () is the Hebrew language used in Talmudic texts. Mishnaic Hebrew can be sub-divided into Mishnaic Hebrew proper (c. 1–200 CE, also called Tannaim, Tannaitic Hebrew, Early Rabbinic Hebrew, or Mishnah, Mishnaic Hebrew I), which was a spoken language, and Amoraim, Amoraic Hebrew (c. 200 to 500 CE, also called Late Rabbinic Hebrew or Mishnaic Hebrew II), which was a literary language only. Ashkenazi Hebrew (, ) is the pronunciation system for Biblical and Mishnaic Hebrew favored for Jewish liturgical use and Torah study by Ashkenazi Jewish practice. Beit Shamai
The House of Hillel (Beit Hillel) and House of Shammai (Beit Shammai) were, among Jewish scholars, two schools of thought during the period of tannaim, named after the sages Hillel and Shammai (of the last century BCE and the early 1st century CE) who founded them. These two schools had vigorous debates on matters of ritual practice, ethics, and theology which were critical for the shaping of the Oral Law and Judaism as it is today. Shulchan Aruch
The ''Shulhan Arukh'' ( ),, often called "the Code of Jewish Law", is the most widely consulted of the various legal codes in Rabbinic Judaism. It was authored in the city of Safed in what is now Israel by Joseph Karo in 1563 and published in Venice two years later. Together with its commentaries, it is the most widely accepted compilation of halakha or Jewish law ever written.
