Inaugural ARIA Music Awards
The First Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as the ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAs) was held on 2 March 1987 at the Sheraton Wentworth Hotel in Sydney with Elton John as the host. The awards were introduced by ARIA Chairman, Paul Turner, who explained the nomination and voting procedures. Presenters of the 20 awards included Slim Dusty, Basia Bonkowski and Donnie Sutherland. The ceremony was not televised. The most successful artist was John Farnham with his album (''Whispering Jack'') and its associated single, "You're the Voice" helping him win six awards. Hunters & Collectors
Hunters & Collectors are an Australian rock band from Melbourne, formed in 1981. Fronted by founding member, singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Seymour, the band's other mainstays are John Archer on bass guitar and Doug Falconer on drums and percussion. Soon after forming they were joined by Jack Howard on trumpet and keyboards, Jeremy Smith on French horn, guitars and keyboards, and Michael Waters on trombone and keyboards. Also acknowledged as a founder was audio engineer and art designer Robert Miles. Joining in 1988, Barry Palmer, on lead guitar, remained until they disbanded in 1998. The group reformed in 2013 with the 1998 line-up. ''Crowded House'' is the debut album by New Zealand-Australian band Crowded House. Produced by Mitchell Froom, it was released in August 1986 and was certified platinum in four countries. The album includes the hit singles "Don't Dream It's Over", " Something So Strong", " Mean to Me", " World Where You Live" and " Now We're Getting Somewhere". At the 1986 Countdown Australian Music Awards the album won Best Debut Album. Anthony O'Grady
Anthony Austin O'Grady (28 January 194719 December 2018) was an Australian writer, music journalist, editor and producer. He created and edited ''Rock Australia Magazine'' from 1975 to 1981. He wrote articles for '' The Bulletin''. In 1994 O'Grady co-created the Music Network. For 15 years he was an oral history interviewer for National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA). O'Grady authored the 2001 biography ''Cold Chisel: The Pure Stuff'' detailing the Australian band Cold Chisel. Glenn Wheatley
Glenn Dawson Wheatley (23 January 1948 – 1 February 2022) was an Australian musician, talent manager, tour promoter and radio entrepreneur. Wheatley was the founder and managing director of Talentworks. Career Wheatley began his career as a musician in Brisbane in the mid-1960s. In the late 1960s, he became known nationally as the bass player in the rock band The Masters Apprentices. He subsequently formed a media empire which included radio stations and artist management. Uncanny X-Men (band)
Uncanny X-Men were an Australian pop rock band which formed in late 1980. Their founding mainstay was lead singer Brian Mannix. Originally with Nick Matandos on drums and Ron Thiessen on guitar, they were soon joined by Chuck Hargreaves on guitar and Steve Harrison on bass guitar. John Kirk replaced Harrison and Craig Waugh replaced Matandos by 1984.
