There are many types of hormone antagonists, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists, estrogen antagonists, and androgen antagonists. Organisms may use hormone antagonists to modify the action of their hormone receptors. For example, ghrelin is a hormone that stimulates appetite and growth hormone release by activating the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR). Hormonal therapy in oncology is hormone therapy for cancer and is one of the major modalities of oncology, medical oncology (pharmacotherapy for cancer), others being chemotherapy, cytotoxic chemotherapy and targeted therapy (biotherapeutics). Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone Antagonist
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonists (GnRH antagonists) are a class of medications that antagonize the gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor (GnRH receptor) and thus the action of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). They are used in the treatment of prostate cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, female infertility in assisted reproduction, and for other indications. Tamoxifen
Tamoxifen, sold under the brand name Nolvadex among others, is a selective estrogen receptor modulator used to prevent breast cancer in women and men. Degarelix, sold under the brand name Firmagon among others, is a hormonal therapy used in the treatment of prostate cancer.
