Flagship (radio)
In broadcasting, a flagship (also known as a flagship station or key station) is the broadcast station which originates a television network, or a particular radio or television program that plays a key role in the branding of and consumer loyalty to a network or station. This includes both direct network feeds and broadcast syndication, but generally not backhauls. Not all networks or shows have a flagship station, as some originate from a dedicated radio or television studio. The term derives from the naval custom where the commanding officer of a group of naval ships would fly a distinguishing flag. In common parlance, "flagship" is now used to mean the most important or leading member of a group, hence its various uses in broadcasting. The term ''flagship station'' is primarily used in TV and radio in the United States, Canada, and the Philippines (though it is seldomly used), while the term is primarily used in TV in Japan (and formerly in the United States). Broadcasting
Broadcasting is the data distribution, distribution of sound, audio audiovisual content to dispersed audiences via a electronic medium (communication), mass communications medium, typically one using the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves), in a :wikt:one-to-many, one-to-many model. Broadcasting began with AM radio, which came into popular use around 1920 with the spread of vacuum tube radio transmitters and radio receiver, receivers. Before this, most implementations of electronic communication (early radio, telephone, and telegraph) were wikt:one-to-one, one-to-one, with the message intended for a single recipient. The term ''broadcasting'' evolved from its use as the agricultural method of sowing seeds in a field by casting them broadly about. WSBB-FM (95.5 Hertz, MHz) is a commercial radio station city of license, licensed to Doraville, Georgia, and serving Atlanta metropolitan area, Metro Atlanta. WSBB-FM and co-owned WSB (AM), WSB (750 AM) simulcast a talk radio, news/talk radio format. WSB (750 kHz) is a commercial broadcasting, commercial AM radio station in Atlanta, Georgia. It simulcasts a news/talk radio format with 95.5 WSBB-FM. WSB and WSBB-FM are the flagship stations for Cox Media Group which also owns three other Atlanta radio stations and WSB-TV. Reedsport is a coastal town in northwest Douglas County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,310. It is located about 73 miles northwest of Roseburg, the county seat. KDUN (1030 AM, "Dune Radio") was a commercial radio station in Reedsport, Oregon, airing an oldies radio format. It was owned by Big Shoes Productions. The studios were located in the Oregon Coast School of Art building in Gardiner, Oregon. The station played hits from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It also carried Seattle Seahawks football games.
