Filefish
The filefish (Monacanthidae) are a diverse family of tropical to subtropical tetraodontiform marine fish, which are also known as foolfish, leatherjackets, or shingles. They live in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Filefish are closely related to triggerfish, pufferfish, and trunkfish. The filefish family comprises about 102 species in 27 genera. More than half of the species are found in Australian waters, with 58 species in 23 genera. Their laterally compressed bodies and rough, sandpapery skin inspired the filefish's common name. Description Appearing very much like their close relatives the triggerfish, filefish are rhomboid-shaped, with beautifully elaborate cryptic patterns. ''Cantherhines macrocerus'', commonly known as the whitespotted filefish, American whitespotted filefish, or whitespotted limefish, is a marine fish found along the coast of Florida extending southward into the Caribbean. ''Stephanolepis hispidus'', the planehead filefish, is a species of bony fish in the family Monacanthidae. Description Planehead filefish grow to a maximum length of , but are more typically about long. Their colour is cryptic, being a more or less mottled pale brown, olive, or green on a light-coloured background, sometimes with darker brown splotches and streaks. The fish are laterally compressed and deep bodied. Their snout is elongated with a terminal mouth. The large yellow eyes are set high on the head and above is a prominent retractable spine. Tetraodontiform
Tetraodontiformes (), also known as the Plectognathi, is an order of ray-finned fishes which includes the pufferfishes and related taxa. This order has been classified as a suborder of the order Perciformes, although recent studies have found that it, as the Tetraodontoidei, is a sister taxon to the anglerfish order Lophiiformes, called Lophiodei, and have placed both taxa within the Acanthuriformes. The Tetraodontiformes are represented by 10 extant families and at around 430 species overall. The majority of the species within this order are marine but a few may be found in freshwater. Triggerfish are about 40 species of often brightly colored marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Balistidae. Often marked by lines and spots, they inhabit tropical and subtropical oceans throughout the world, with the greatest species richness in the Indo-Pacific. ''Sargassum'' is a genus of brown macroalgae ( seaweed) in the order Fucales of the Phaeophyceae class.
