Electoral District Of Alfred Cove
Alfred Cove was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It was located in Perth's southern suburbs, and named after the riverside suburb of Alfred Cove. History Alfred Cove was created at the 1994 redistribution, created out of the northern riverside portions of the former seats of Applecross and part of Melville, and was first contested in the 1996 election at which Liberal member and Court government minister Doug Shave, who had previously represented Melville since the 1989 election, was successful. Alfred Cove, and Applecross before it, was regarded as very safe for the Liberal Party, but an Independent Liberal, Penny Hearne, who had formerly represented the Liberals against Kim Beazley in Brand at the previous federal election, had cut Shave's margin to just over 2%. Alfred Cove, Western Australia
Alfred Cove is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Melville. History It is named after the adjacent sheltered cove in the Swan River, which is in turn named after Alfred Waylen who was born at Point Walter in 1833 and who was granted Swan Location 74, covering most of present-day Alfred Cove and Myaree. The suburb contains Tompkins Park, Bill Sweet Park and Sid Eaton Reserve. As of 2016, Alfred Cove had a population of 2,550. Wildlife The suburb is home to a variety of migrant and native species of birds and animals as the hinterland offers a comfortable habitat including the mudflats, seagrass beds and intertidal vegetation. Janet Woollard
Janet May Woollard (born 13 February 1955) is an Australian former politician who served as a member for the seat of Alfred Cove in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2013. Woollard successfully contested the seat in the February 2001 state election as an Independent candidate (representing the Liberals for Forests party). She was re-elected at the 2005 election and again at the 2008 election. In 2007 Woollard's son, Luke, crashed his family's boat whilst drink driving, seriously injuring a passenger. The injured passenger successfully sued Luke, who said he was unable to pay the A$230,000 compensation and indicated he faced bankruptcy. Woollard and her husband initially refused to pay the compensation on behalf of their son. However, they settled the case following intense media scrutiny. Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (commonly known by its acronym, SEIFA) is a product that summarizes the relative socio-economic characteristics of Australian communities. The indexes have been created by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the national statistical agency. The source of the data is derived from the five-yearly Census of Population and Housing, and is calculated using principal component analysis (PCA). Domains and variables First produced following the 1971 Census, SEIFA is primarily used to rank areas according to socio-economic advantage and disadvantage based on census data. Electoral District Of Bateman
Bateman is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district shares its name with the southern Perth suburb of Bateman, situated in the central part of the electorate. Both the electorate and the suburb are named after members of the Bateman family, who established their home, "Grasmere", at nearby Bulls Creek, in 1886. The seat was created as a result of the 2007 electoral redistribution, largely replacing the former Murdoch electorate. 2017 Western Australian State Election
The 2017 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 11 March 2017 to elect members to the Parliament of Western Australia, including all 59 seats in the Legislative Assembly and all 36 seats in the Legislative Council. The eight-and-a-half-year two-term incumbent Liberal– WA National government, led by Premier Colin Barnett, was defeated in a landslide by the Labor opposition, led by Opposition Leader Mark McGowan. Dean Nalder
Dean Cambell Nalder (born 5 February 1966) is an Australian former politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia for the Liberal Party from 2013 to 2021, representing the seat of Alfred Cove until 2017, and Bateman following the 2017 electoral boundary re-distribution. At various times, he served as Minister for Transport, Minister for Finance and Minister for Agriculture and Food in the ministry of Premier Colin Barnett from 2014 to 2016. Following the Liberals' defeat at the 2017 state election, Nalder served in a number of shadow portfolios in the shadow ministries of Mike Nahan and Liza Harvey until resigning from the frontbench on 8 December 2020, following his announcement of retirement from politics at the next election. Graham Donald Kierath (born 21 July 1950) is a former Australian politician who served 11 years in the Parliament of Western Australia. He is best known for his five-year term as Western Australian Minister for Labour Relations. Political career Kierath was elected to the seat of Riverton in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly at the 1989 Western Australian election, representing the Liberal Party. After the election of Richard Court as Western Australian Premier in 1993, Kierath was appointed as Minister for Labour Relations.
