The Division of Blair is an Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. The current MP is Shayne Neumann of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division was created in 1998 and is named after Harold Blair, an Aboriginal singer and civil rights campaigner. The Division is based on Ipswich, and extends from rural and exurban areas west of Brisbane to the Scenic Rim and Lockyer Valley regions. Cameron Thompson (politician)
Cameron Paul Thompson (born 1 October 1960) served as a member of the Australian House of Representatives representing the Division of Blair in Queensland. A member of the Liberal Party, he served from 1998 until 2007. Early life Thompson was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, and was a radio journalist, as well as press secretary and chief of staff to several state and territory politicians in Queensland and the Northern Territory before entering politics. Election to parliament Thompson was preselected for the new division of Blair for the 1998 election. Considerable press at the time focussed on the contest, as the redistribution creating the seat had split One Nation leader Pauline Hanson's seat of Oxley in half.
