Carla Del Ponte
Carla Del Ponte (born February 9, 1947) is a Swiss former Chief Prosecutor of two United Nations international criminal law tribunals. A former Swiss attorney general, she was appointed prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in August 1999, replacing Louise Arbour. In 2003, the U.N. Security Council removed Del Ponte as the Prosecutor for the ICTR, and replaced her there with Hassan Bubacar Jallow following pressure from Rwanda's president Kagame who was obstructing her efforts to investigate crimes by Tutsi. She remained the Prosecutor for the ICTY until 1 January 2008, when she was succeeded by Serge Brammertz. Del Ponte was formerly married, and has one son. Giovanni Berardi
Giovanni Berardi (1380 – 21 January 1449) was the Cardinal and bishop. He was born into the family De Ponte (''De Pontibus'') of the counts of Tagliacozzo. He was elected Archbishop of Taranto in 1421, and occupied the see until December 1439, when Pope Eugenius IV raised him to the cardinalate. He represented Eugene at the Council of Basel, and later served as papal legate in Germany against antipope Felix V (1439–40), and as legate ''a latere'' to establish peace between kings of Sicily and Aragon, 1440-41. He was named bishop of the suburbicarian see of Palestrina on 7 March 1444, and grand penitentiary, at the end of that year. As the most senior cardinal-bishop residing in Roman Curia, he became dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals in 1445. He presided over the papal conclave, 1447, and successfully promoted the candidature of Cardinal Tommaso Parentucelli, who was elected Pope Nicholas V. John de Ponz, also called John de Ponte, John Savan, or John of Bridgwater (c.1248–1307) was an English-born administrator, lawyer and judge in the reign of King Edward I. He served in the Royal Household in England for several years before moving to Ireland, where he practised in the Royal Courts as the King's Serjeant-at-law (Ireland). Juan de Ponte (ca. 1828 – ca. 1908) was interim Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 5 January 1888 to 4 April 1888. Background De Ponte had been harbormaster at the Port of Ponce and was one of a group of citizens who labored extensively to bring a water pipeline from the Acueducto de Ponce in the city proper to serve the needs for potable water at Barrio Playa. He was recruited to serve as mayor from his work as a harbourmaster at the Port of Ponce. Mayoral term His mayoral tenure was from 5 January to 4 April 1988—a short 90 days. He was named provisional mayor of Ponce until a permanent mayor could be appointed. Nothing significant occurred during his 3-month stay as mayor. Pedro De Ponte
Pedro de Ponte (''floruit'' 1163–90), possibly a Galician, was the royal chancellor of the Kingdom of León from 1170 to 1172 and the second bishop of the newly founded see of Ciudad Rodrigo from 1174 until his death. His predecessor, Bishop Domingo, is a shadowy figure who was deceased by 1173 at the latest. Pedro was a royal clerk from at least as early as 1163, and was awarded prebends in the wealthy dioceses of Oviedo and Santiago de Compostela. After being awarded the bishopric, he visited the Roman curia in 1175 to receive confirmation of the new diocese, since King Ferdinand II had founded it without papal approval. This he received, although not without also receiving a rebuke for the king. Pedro returned to Rome in 1179 to attend the Third Lateran Council. Piero De Ponte
Fra' Piero del Ponte (26 August 1462 – 17 November 1535) was the 45th Grand Master of the Order of Saint John between 1534 and 1535. He hailed from Asti, in northern Italy and was a descendant of the ancient family of Casal-Gros and Lombriax. He became a Knights Hospitaller and was the Order's governor of the island of Lango when Rhodes fell to the Ottomans on New Year's Day 1523, and was still there in 1534 when he received the news of his election to the office of Grand Master of the Order, to succeed Philippe Villiers de L'Isle-Adam at Malta. After he was elected he spent two months in Calabria, and arrived in Malta on 10 November 1534. The first coins of the Order to be minted in Malta were stuck during del Ponte's reign. In June 1535 the Grandmaster sent the Order's navy to fight in the victorious conquest of Tunis. Del Ponte died on 18 November 1535, 15 months after his election.
