Enrico Butti (April 3, 1847 – January 21, 1932) was an Italian sculptor, active mainly in Milan. He created principally funerary and commemorative monuments. He was professor of sculpture at the Accademia di Brera from 1893 to 1913. Biography He was born to a family of marble cutters and sculptors. At the age of 14, he began studying at the Brera under the sculptor Pietro Magni, making ends meet by working for other sculptors such as Francesco Barzaghi, Ugo Zannoni, and Magni. In the 1872 National Exhibition in Milan, he exhibited his first work, a marble ''Raphael'', but two years later his '' Eleonora d'Este'' drew much praise. In 1879, he exhibited at the Brera a monument for the Cavi-Bossi family, for which he gained the Prince Umberto prize. Maktoum bin Butti (Arabic مكتوم بن بطي) was the joint founder and first ruler of Dubai, today one of the United Arab Emirates, alongside Obeid bin Said bin Rashid, with whom he led a migration of the Al Bu Falasah from Abu Dhabi, seceding from the Bani Yas. He was a signatory to the 1843 Maritime Truce, the precursor to the Perpetual Maritime Truce of 1853, as well as the 1847 treaty to abolish the slave trade. Sheikh Butti bin Suhail Al Maktoum ( ar, ٱلشَّيْخ بُطِّي بِن سُهَيْل آل مَكْتُوْم, Ash-Shaykh Buṭṭī bin Suhayl Āl Maktūm) became the Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai on 16 February 1906, following the death of his cousin, Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher, of heart disease. He continued the liberal policies of his predecessor, expanding Dubai's trading port. Rule Early in his rule, Butti was called to intervene in a conflict between Abu Dhabi and the influential Bani Qitab tribe, which had broken out the year before.
