It is an imagined place (possibly state) in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. Dystopia is widely seen as the opposite of utopia – a concept coined by Thomas More in 1516 to describe an ideal society. Both ''topias'' are common topics in fiction. Dystopia is also referred to as cacotopia, or anti-utopia. Dystopias are often characterized by fear or distress, tyrannical governments, environmental disaster, or other characteristics associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Themes typical of a dystopian society include: complete control over the people in a society through the use propaganda and police state tactics, heavy censorship of information or denial of free thought, worship of an unattainable goal, the complete loss of individuality, and heavy enforcement of conformity. ... The band was formed in 1993 in Stockholm as side project of Anders Nyström (aka Blakkheim), known for his work as the guitarist of Katatonia. History Diabolical Masquerade was a Swedish one-man black metal band. The music leans heavily on avant-garde melodic black metal with some death metal and thrash metal influences. Blakkheim wanted to experiment more with song structure, theme and composition. This is most notably seen on the last Diabolical Masquerade album, '' Death's Design''. This album is conceived as the soundtrack to a nonexistent Swedish horror movie, with 61 tracks broken up into 20 movements, each with a unique feel and theme. Darkspace (band)
Darkspace is a Swiss ambient black metal band from Bern, considered to be a pioneer of the cosmic subset therein. Their lyrical themes revolve around space, darkness and cosmic mysticism, and their music sporadically features isolated samples from space-themed films such as '' 2001: A Space Odyssey'', ''Event Horizon'', '' Alien'' and '' Terminator 2: Judgment Day''. The band does not title their works; each album is titled ''Dark Space'', differentiated only by a subsequent Roman numeral or tally mark indicating order of release—and likewise, each track is titled "Dark" followed by two digits that represent the album number and discography-wise track number respectively, which are separated by a decimal point. As an example, "Dark 3.16" is the sixth track on ''Dark Space III'' but is their sixteenth overall piece. However, the band's fourth album is titled ''Dark Space III I'' rather than ''Dark Space IV''; their fifth is ''Dark Space -II'', its sole track being -2.2, whic ...
