Mayhem (band)
Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Oslo in 1984. They were one of the pioneers of the early Norwegian black metal scene, Norwegian black metal scene, and their music has profoundly influenced the black metal genre. Oslo
Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Rune Eriksen
Rune Eriksen (born 13 January 1975), also known by his stage name Blasphemer, is a Norwegian musician best known as the former guitarist and songwriter of black metal band Mayhem (band), Mayhem. He took his stage name from a Sodom (band), Sodom song and joined Mayhem in October 1994, before departing the band in late 2008. Eriksen founded his solo project RUÏM in 2020 and is currently a member of Aura Noir, Earth Electric, and the multinational bands Twilight Of The Gods and Vltimas, the former initially being a Bathory (band), Bathory tribute band and the latter being a supergroup with former Morbid Angel vocalist David Vincent (musician), David Vincent and drummer Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy. Motörhead
Motörhead () were an English rock music, rock band formed in London in 1975 by bassist and lead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister, guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox. Venom are an English heavy metal band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1978. Øystein Aarseth
Øystein Aarseth (22 March 1968 – 10 August 1993), better known by his stage name Euronymous, was a Norwegian musician and a founder of and central figure in the early Norwegian black metal scene. He was a co-founder and guitarist of the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem and was the only constant member from the band's formation in 1984 until his death in 1993. He was also founder and owner of the extreme metal record label Deathlike Silence Productions and record shop Helvete. Euronymous professed to being a theistic Satanist and was known for making extreme misanthropic statements. He presented himself as leading a militant cult-like group known as the "Black Metal Inner Circle". In August 1993, he was murdered by fellow musician and former bandmate Varg Vikernes. Morten Bergeton Iversen (born 19 November 1974), better known by his stage name Teloch ( ), is a Norwegian musician. He is a guitarist for black metal bands Mayhem and Nidingr, and fronts the eponymous electronic solo project Bergeton. Iversen is a former touring and session member of Gorgoroth, God Seed and 1349. Career Iversen began his musical career in the early 1990s in punk band Dødsdømt, thrash/death metal band Legions and death metal band Morbidity. He founded black metal band Nidingr in 1996 and recorded their first demo that same year, with their second demo released in 1999. In 2004, Iversen joined Gorgoroth, first as a guitar technician and then live member, and the band Orcustus with other members of Gorgoroth. ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' is the debut studio album by Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Songwriting began in 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin and the murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May 1994. ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' is widely regarded one of the most influential black metal albums of all time. It is the band's only studio album to feature Aarseth and Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes. Background and recording 1987–1991 Mayhem began writing songs for the album in late 1987 or early 1988, depending on the source. Burzum
Burzum (; ) is a Norwegian music project founded by former Mayhem member Varg Vikernes in 1991. Although Burzum never played live performances, it became a staple of the early Norwegian black metal scene and is considered one of the most influential acts in black metal's history. The word "burzum" means "darkness" in the Black Speech, a fictional language crafted by ''The Lord of the Rings'' writer J. R. R. Tolkien. Burzum's lyrics and imagery are often inspired by fantasy and Norse mythology. Vikernes founded Burzum in 1991 and recorded the first four Burzum albums between January 1992 and March 1993. From 1994 to 2009, Vikernes was imprisoned for the murder of Mayhem guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and the arson of eight churches.
