Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada, alongside the Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times. The 1997–98 WHL season was the 32nd season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The season featured eighteen teams and a 72-game season. The Portland Winter Hawks won both the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as regular season champions and the President's Cup as playoff champions before going on to win the 1998 Memorial Cup, which was hosted by the Spokane Chiefs. Duncan Milroy
Duncan Alexander James Milroy (born February 8, 1983) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger. He was selected in the second round, 37th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Milroy played in the junior hockey in the Western Hockey League for the Swift Current Broncos. He was drafted in the second round, 37th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. After a few seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL, Milroy was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens in February 2007 and played 5 games with the team gathering 1 point (an assist). 2001–02 WHL Season
The 2001–02 WHL season was the 36th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The league expanded to nineteen teams with the addition of the Vancouver Giants. The Red Deer Rebels won their second consecutive Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for posting the best regular season record; the Rebels also returned to the championship series for a second straight here. Red Deer Rebels
The Red Deer Rebels are a Canadian major junior ice hockey team based in Red Deer, Alberta. The Rebels are members of the Western Hockey League and play home games at the Marchant Crane Centrium. The Rebels won the President's Cup and the Memorial Cup during the 2000–01 season. History In 1991, coach Terry Simpson and his brother were granted an expansion franchise, and they wanted in Red Deer. From a name-the-team contest, the top three ideas were Rebels, Renegades, and Centurions. The Rebels selected Mike McBain as their first player in the Bantam Draft. The Rebels' first game was on September 25, 1992, in Red Deer against the Prince Albert Raiders; the Rebels won 6–3. In 1999, the Simpsons sold the team to Brent Sutter. Kootenay Ice
The Kootenay Ice (officially stylized as ICE) were a Canadian major junior ice hockey team based in Cranbrook, British Columbia, competing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and playing its home games at Western Financial Place. The franchise, which began as the Edmonton Ice before moving to Cranbrook in 1998, was owned by Ed Chynoweth from 1995 until it was sold to Winnipeg-based company 50 Below Sports and Entertainment in 2017. Calgary Hitmen
The Calgary Hitmen are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Calgary, Alberta. The Hitmen play in the Central Division of the Western Hockey League (WHL), hosting their home games at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Bret "Hitman" Hart, a professional wrestler and Calgary native, was a founding owner and the inspiration for the team's name. Established in 1994, the team has been owned by the Calgary Flames hockey club since 1997. They are the third WHL team based in Calgary, after the Centennials and Wranglers. The Hitmen have won four regular season titles, and the team qualified for the playoffs for thirteen consecutive seasons between 1998 and 2010. Brad Moran (ice Hockey)
Brad Moran (born March 20, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre, his last team being the Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). Playing career A graduate of the Western Hockey League (WHL)'s Calgary Hitmen, Moran, who was originally drafted in the 7th round, 191st overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, spent five seasons with the Hitmen before signing as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the summer of 2000. As a prolific scorer with the Hitmen, he recorded 532 regular season and playoff points over his five-year WHL career, earning WHL Player of the Year honours and capturing the Bob Clarke Trophy as the league's top scorer in 1999–2000 while being named to the WHL Eastern Conference First All-Star Team.
