A poster artist (), or poster designer, a graphic designer of posters. Etymology The name first appeared around 1780, but with a different meaning. It meant one involved in a poster's production and distribution, not its design: in particular, for producing handbills, typographer, setting up type and coordinating flyposting on walls, giving news on local and national events on a range of subjects. Usually anonymous, these people are rarely considered artists, nor their products works of art. Nineteenth century At the end of the nineteenth century, poster art became a respectable art form, with the invention of large-scale colour lithography. Flickr ( ) is an image hosting service, image and Online video platform, video hosting service, as well as an online community, founded in Canada and headquartered in the United States. It was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and was previously a common way for amateur and professional photographers to host high-resolution photos. It has changed ownership several times and has been owned by SmugMug since April 20, 2018. Flickr had a total of 112 million registered members and more than 3.5 million new images uploaded daily. On August 5, 2011, the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images. In 2024, it was reported as having shared 10 billion photos and accepting 25 million per day. Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Charles Rennie Mackintosh (7 June 1868 – 10 December 1928) was a Scottish architect, designer, water colourist and artist. His artistic approach had much in common with European Symbolism. His work, alongside that of his wife Margaret Macdonald, was influential on European design movements such as Art Nouveau and Secessionism and praised by great modernists such as Josef Hoffmann. Mackintosh was born in Glasgow, Scotland and died in London, England. He is among the most important figures of Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style). Early life and education Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born at 70 Parson Street, Townhead, Glasgow, on 7 June 1868, the fourth of eleven children and second son of William McIntosh, a superintendent and chief clerk of the City of Glasgow Police. Advertising Column
An advertising column or Morris column (, ) is a cylindrical outdoor sidewalk structure with a characteristic style that is used for advertising and other purposes. They are common throughout Germany including its capital Berlin, where the first 100 columns were installed in 1855. Advertising columns were invented by the German printer Ernst Litfaß in 1854. Therefore, they are known as Litfass columns (''Litfaßsäulen''). In France, the columns are called ''colonnes Morris'' after Gabriel Morris, a printer, who held the concession for advertising in 1868. They were originally built by ''La Société Fermière des Colonnes Morris''. Today, they are mostly built and maintained by the JCDecaux company, which purchased the original company in 1986.
