''H. G. Wells: War with the World'' is a 2006 BBC Television docudrama telling the life story of the British author H. G. Wells, who is played in the film by Michael Sheen. The title of the film echoes that of one of Wells' best-known novels, ''The War of the Worlds'' (1898). Plot The film dramatises the story of the author's life, by using H. G. Wells' own words. It tells the story of Wells' transformation from self-confident womaniser, socialist radical and young literary prophet to burdened missionary, dedicated to creating a World State. Docudrama (or documentary drama) is a genre of television and film, which features dramatized re-enactments of actual events. It is described as a hybrid of documentary and drama and "a fact-based representation of real event". Docudramas typically strive to adhere to known historical facts, while allowing some degree of dramatic license in peripheral details, such as when there are gaps in the historical record. Dialogue may, or may not, include the actual words of real-life people, as recorded in historical documents. Docudrama producers sometimes choose to film their reconstructed events in the actual locations in which the historical events occurred.
