The Dio Years
''Black Sabbath: The Dio Years'' is a 2007 compilation CD of material recorded by Black Sabbath during vocalist Ronnie James Dio's tenure in the band. The CD contains remastered tracks taken from the studio albums '' Heaven and Hell'' (1980), '' Mob Rules'' (1981), and '' Dehumanizer'' (1992), as well as a live version of the song " Children of the Sea" taken from the live album '' Live Evil'' (1982). It was reported that the collection was first conceived of as a box set including all albums from '' Heaven and Hell'' to ''The Eternal Idol''. This idea was eventually scrapped, and instead a box set was planned to feature just the four albums recorded from the Dio era of the band. This second idea was put aside, though would eventually be revisited as ''The Rules of Hell'', a box set released in the summer of 2008. In an interview conducted by Martin Popoff, To ...

Children Of The Sea (song)
"Children of the Sea" is a song by heavy metal band Black Sabbath, from their ninth studio album, '' Heaven and Hell'' (1980). Overview "Children of the Sea" was the first song written by the band following the 1979 departure of original lead singer Ozzy Osbourne. The song's melody and lyrics were composed by new singer, Ronnie James Dio, and the music was written largely by guitarist Tony Iommi. After first meeting Iommi in 1979, Dio arrived at the guitarist's Los Angeles house for a jam session, and on that occasion the duo wrote the song. "Tony had this great riff he played me but nothing to go with it," recalled Dio. "I said, 'Gimme a minute' and went into the corner and started writing down the words." Iommi recalled the moment as a turning point in Black Sabbath's career, saying "It was exciting and challenging because we were doing things that quite frankly would have been beyond us with Ozzy. He wasn't that sort of singer." Iommi claims to still possess a very early demo ...

Neon Knights
"Neon Knights" is a song by English rock band Black Sabbath from 1980's '' Heaven and Hell'', their first album with American vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Overview "Neon Knights" was the last song written by the band for the ''Heaven and Hell'' album. It was quickly written and recorded at Studio Ferber in Paris during January 1980 simply to fill time on the album's first side. The lyrics were written by Ronnie James Dio. It is the only song on ''Heaven and Hell'' to definitely feature songwriting input from bassist Geezer Butler, the band's main lyricist during the Ozzy Osbourne era. Butler was absent for most of the songwriting process due personal issues as well as his own uncertainty as to whether he wanted to remain in the band. Dio occasionally performed the song during their live shows in later years. The B-side of the 1980 single release features a live version of "Children of the Sea" from an unspecified date. The song reached number 22 on the UK charts, but failed to ...

[It means] just a man — like, 'Hello, mate.' It's just like somebody calling you 'dude' over here (in the United States). In England, it'd be 'geezer.' So my brother used to come home from leave from the army, and he'd be going, 'Hello, geezer. How are you, geezer?' So because I had looked up to my brother when I was about seven years old, I'd go to school calling everybody a geezer. So that's how I got cursed with it." Butler grew up in a working- ...
