Netherlands Film Festival
The Netherlands Film Festival () is an annual film festival, held in September and October of each year in the city of Utrecht. During the ten-day festival, Dutch film productions and co-productions are exhibited. Besides feature films, the program also consists of short subjects, documentary films, and television productions. On the closing evening of the festival, the Golden Calves are awarded to the best films, directors, and actors. Together with the Netherlands Film Fund, the festival also recognises box office results of Dutch film productions during the year with the Crystal Film (10,000 visitors of documentary films), Golden Film (100,000 visitors), Platinum Film (400,000 visitors), and Diamond Film (1,000,000 visitors). The Tars
''The Tars'' or '' De Jantjes '' is a 1934 Dutch comedy film drama directed by Jaap Speyer. The film was a remake of the 1922 film of the same name, which itself was based on a 1920-play by Louis Davids and Margie Morris. Reception and influence The film was the second Dutch sound film to be released after the 1934 film Willem van Oranje, released just one month earlier. The film became a big commercial success and popularised the genre of ''Jordaanfilms'', a Dutch film-genre popular in the 1930s. Georg Henri Anton "Joris" Ivens (18 November 1898 – 28 June 1989) was a Dutch documentary filmmaker. Historical significance and context ''Regen'' has four key elements that have cemented its place in documentary history: its place in the long career of director Joris Ivens, the Dutch Film Canon, the city symphony film movement, and the history of avant-garde documentaries. Joris Ivens lived from 1898 to 1989 and in that time created thirteen noteworthy documentaries, whose interrelation and evolution loosely model the trajectory of documentary film as a whole.
