Jack Roland Murphy
Jack Roland Murphy (May 26, 1937 – September 12, 2020), known as "Murph the Surf" or "Murf the Surf", was convicted of murder in 1969. He was also involved in the biggest jewel heist in American history, the 1964 burglary of the jewel collection of New York's American Museum of Natural History. Murphy is also known for being a surfing champion, musician, author, and artist. He was released from prison in 1986. He spent his latter years as an ordained minister, working with inmates in the field of prison ministry. Early life Murphy was born in Oceanside, California. He was an only child and his father worked as a telephone company lineman. As a child, Murphy enjoyed the violin and surfing. His family moved to Pittsburgh when he was in high school. ''The Yellow Birds'' is the debut novel from American writer, poet, and Iraq War veteran Kevin Powers. Erwin Chamberlain
Erwin Groves "Murph" Chamberlain (February 14, 1915 in Shawville, Quebec – May 8, 1986) was a Canadian ice hockey centre who played in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Brooklyn Americans and Boston Bruins between 1937 and 1949. He won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1944 and 1946, both with Montreal. Playing career before NHL Chamberlain, whose first name was spelled "Irwin" in his hometown newspaper, reportedly began his hockey career in Shawville, PQ. Marvin Leonard "Murph" Goldberger (October 22, 1922 – November 26, 2014) was an American theoretical physicist and former president of the California Institute of Technology. Biography Goldberger was born in Chicago, Illinois. He went on to receive his B.S. at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), and Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago in 1948. His advisor on thesis, ''Interaction of High-Energy Neutrons with Heavy Nuclei'', was Enrico Fermi. Murph (drummer)
Emmett Jefferson Murphy III (born December 21, 1964), professionally credited as both Patrick Murphy and Murph, is best known for being the drummer for the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. He was a member of the group from its founding in 1984 through 1993, and since the original lineup reformed in 2005. Musical career Murph was initially the drummer in the hardcore punk band All White Jury. He met J Mascis and Lou Barlow through Mascis' friend Charlie Nakajima and was soon after invited to join their band Deep Wound. Deep Wound disbanded and Mascis, Barlow, and Murph formed Dinosaur Jr without Nakajima. Murph would remain in the band until leaving the group in 1993. He joined The Lemonheads in 1995.
