Human Migration
Human migration is the movement of people from one place to another, with intentions of settling, permanently or temporarily, at a new location (geographic region). The movement often occurs over long distances and from one country to another (external migration), but internal migration (within a single country) is the dominant form of human migration globally.World Migration Report' Migration is often associated with better human capital at both individual and household level, and with better access to migration networks, facilitating a possible second move. It has a high potential to improve human development, and some studies confirm that migration is the most direct route out of poverty. Age is also important for both work and non-work migration. People may migrate as individuals, in family units or in Mass migration, large groups. There are four major forms of migration: invasion, conquest, colonization and emigration/immigration. People moving from their home due to force ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Planetary Migration
Planetary migration occurs when a planet or other body in orbit around a star interacts with a disk of gas or planetesimals, resulting in the alteration of its orbital parameters, especially its semi-major axis. Planetary migration is the most likely explanation for hot Jupiters ( exoplanets with Jovian masses but orbits of only a few days). The generally accepted theory of planet formation from a protoplanetary disk predicts that such planets cannot form so close to their stars, as there is insufficient mass at such small radii and the temperature is too high to allow the formation of rocky or icy planetesimals. It has also become clear that terrestrial-mass planets may be subject to rapid inward migration if they form while the gas disk is still present. This may affect the formation of the cores of the giant planets (which have masses of the order of 10 to 1000 Earth masses), if those planets form via the core-accretion mechanism. Types of disk Gas disk Observ ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Migration (Bonobo Album)
''Migration'' is the sixth studio album by British DJ and record producer Simon Green, performing under the name Bonobo. It was released on 13 January 2017 through Ninja Tune. The album was recorded primarily on laptops rather than in a studio. It was supported by the release of several singles, including "Kerala". The album received generally positive reviews from critics and charted internationally, reaching the top five of the UK Albums Chart. Background ''Migration'' was primarily written and recorded while Green was still on tour for his previous album, '' The North Borders''. After the completion of the tour, Green completed a move from New York City to the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The move, as well as the travelling for the tour and the deaths of some family members, led Green to contemplate on themes of identity, migration, and the environment. Because the tour for ''The North Borders'' consisted of approximately 175 shows across three continents for abo ... Migration (The Amboy Dukes Album)
''Migration'' is the third studio album by The Amboy Dukes. It was released in 1969 on Mainstream Records. Composition ''AllMusic'' has suggested that ''Migration'' reflects a stronger influence from Ted Nugent's input than the previous Amboy Dukes albums, citing the lack of drug influence in the lyrics due to Nugent's anti-drug stance, and the lack of a "spaced-out follow-up" to " Journey to the Center of the Mind", the band's biggest hit. The band also took a more eclectic approach to composition on ''Migration''. " I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent" is a cover of a song by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. Reception ''Migration'' received a "cold" reception upon release. In a retrospective review, ''AllMusic'' said that the album was "more ambitious" than '' Journey to the Center of the Mind'' and that ''Migration'' "might be the better of the two discs, if not the best of the Amboy Dukes' career." Migrate (song)
"Migrate" is a song by American singer Mariah Carey from her eleventh studio album, '' E=MC²'' (2008). It was written and produced by Carey and Danja, with additional songwriting from The Clutch and the track's featured artist, T-Pain. An up-tempo hip hop club track, it is about Carey's movement on a girls' night out, ranging from the club, the bar, the VIP lounge, the after party and the hotel. Critical response to the song was mixed, with many critics disapproving of Carey's decision to use Auto-Tune on her vocals. Despite not being a single, in the United States, "Migrate" peaked at number ninety-two on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, ninety-five on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and sixty-nine on the Pop 100 chart. Carey and T-Pain performed the song on ''Saturday Night Live''. Background and composition "Migrate" is an up-tempo hip hop and club track. Lyrically, it is about the freedom and independence of a girls' night out. It documents Carey's whereabouts an ... System Migration
System migration involves moving a set of instructions or programs, e.g., PLC ( programmable logic controller) programs, from one platform to another, minimizing reengineering. Migration of systems can also involve downtime, while the old system is replaced with a new one. Migration can be from a mainframe computer A mainframe computer, informally called a mainframe or big iron, is a computer used primarily by large organizations for critical applications like bulk data processing for tasks such as censuses, industry and consumer statistics, enterprise ... which has a closed architecture, to an open system which employ x86 servers. As well, migration can be from an open system to a Cloud Computing platform. The motivation for this can be the cost savings. Migration can be simplified by tools that can automatically convert data from one form to another. There are also tools to convert the code from one platform to another to be either compiled or interpreted. Vendo ... Software Migration
Legacy modernization, also known as software modernization or platform modernization, refers to the conversion, rewriting or porting of a legacy system to modern computer programming languages, architectures (e.g. microservices), software libraries, protocols or hardware platforms. Legacy transformation aims to retain and extend the value of the legacy investment through migration to new platforms to benefit from the advantage of the new technologies.Gardner, D"Not just a nip and tuck, application modernization extends the lifecycle of legacy code assets" ''ZDNet'', October 24, 2006 As a basis and first step of software modernization initiatives, the strategy, the risk management, the estimation of costs, and its implementation, lies the knowledge of the system being modernized. The knowledge of what all functionalities are made for, and the knowledge of how it has been developed. Schema Migration
In software engineering, a schema migration (also database migration, database change management) refers to the management of version-controlled, incremental and sometimes reversible changes to relational database schemas. A schema migration is performed on a database whenever it is necessary to update or revert that database's schema to some newer or older version. Migrations are performed programmatically by using a ''schema migration tool''. When invoked with a specified desired schema version, the tool automates the successive application or reversal of an appropriate sequence of schema changes until it is brought to the desired state. Most schema migration tools aim to minimize the impact of schema changes on any existing data in the database. Despite this, preservation of data in general is not guaranteed because schema changes such as the deletion of a database column can destroy data (i.e. all values stored under that column for all rows in that table are deleted). PC Migration
PC migration is the process of transferring the entire user environment (i.e. personal documents and settings) between two computer systems. The migration problem is often associated with the concept of total cost of ownership where the requirement to migrate information is considered a "cost" in purchasing a new PC, similar considerations exist for businesses upgrading hardware/software. PC migration is required whenever one needs to move to a new computer (i.e. purchasing new hardware), or upgrade to a new OS. Because of intrinsic differences and strong OS-hardware coupling, PC migration is considered to be a problem for both consumers and enterprises. Some PC migration software products are capable of transferring not just settings and data, but also applications. Sources for software that automates PC migration software include Laplink, Tranxition, and Swimage. Windows 10 does not any longer include a Windows transfer utility with the OS.
