Dietrich Knothe
Dietrich Knothe (6 January 1929 – 7 September 2000) was a German conductor and choral conductor, winner of the 1985 Handel Prize presented by the city of Halle. Biography Knothe was born in Dresden. At the age of 10, he joined the Thomanerchor of the St. Thomas School, Leipzig under conductor Günther Ramin in 1939. After his studies at the music academies of Leipzig and Berlin-Charlottenburg, Knothe worked from 1953 with the MDR Rundfunkchor of Leipzig. In 1955 he founded the "Capella Lipsiensis", an ensemble of soloists with whom he mainly performed music of the Renaissance and the Baroque eras. For political reasons Knothe was dismissed without notice in 1962 when he and his choir gave up singing the National Anthem after a concert. Until he was appointed vice-director of the Berliner Singakademie in 1966, Knothe was a taxi driver and pianist in a ballet school. In 1975 he was promoted to director of the Berlin Singakademie. George Bertram Knothe (January 12, 1898 – July 3, 1981) was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as an infielder for one season with the Philadelphia Phillies in however, he played in minor league baseball from to . His brother, Fritz Knothe also played in Major League Baseball as a third baseman. Knothe was known as a sure-handed defensive player. Baseball career Knothe was born in Bayonne, New Jersey and graduated from high school in 1917. He began his professional baseball career in 1922 at the age of 24 with the Newark Bears of the International League. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1925. Jan Knothe (February 18, 1912 in Winnica – December 19, 1977 in Warsaw) was a Polish architect, artist, graphic designer, writer, poet and diplomat (Belgium, Syria). Biography Jan Knothe was an alumnus of the Władysław IV Gymnasium in Warsaw. Studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Technology in Warsaw. During World War II, as a prisoner of Oflag II-C prisoner-of-war camp, Knothe participated in the prisoners' cultural life. Wrote a sequence of Ramayana-based poems about Warsaw (lost during the camp's evacuation). Having mastered the Mahabharata poetry form, Knothe wrote a narrative poem about ''The Brave Sailor John Scolvus'' (''Opowieść o dzielnym żeglarzu Janie z Kolna''), as well as, with Stanisław Michalski, worked on woodcuts, bookplates and camp stamps.
