East Meets West (John Scofield Album)
''East Meets West'' is the debut album by American jazz guitarist John Scofield. It was recorded in 1977 at the Onkio Haus in Tokyo with bassist Clint Houston and Motohiko Hino on drums. The opening tracks of either side of the LP include trumpeter Terumasa Hino, the drummer's brother. The album was released under the title ''John Scofield'' in 1978 by Trio Records in Japan. After Trio closed, BlackHawk Records released the album in 1987 under the title ''East Meets West''. Storyville Records reissued the album with part of the original design restored, using a cropped photograph of Scofield standing by the Hudson River. Scofield had his major breakthrough playing with Miles Davis by the time of the Black Hawk re-release. According to Herb Wong in the liner notes, Scofield was the first guitarist to transfer "post-Coltrane harmonic language, integrating much of the idiom saxophonists have been working on." ''East Meets West'' is a 1995 Japanese Western film directed by Kihachi Okamoto. Plot The story, set in the year 1860, begins with an old man in the desert. Two signs are shown: one marked East, the other West. Japan's government has sent men on a mission to San Francisco. In San Francisco, the Japanese are surprised by American culture. One American, Gus Taylor, and his gang steal all the gold from the mission and make their way into the desert. One of the samurai on the mission chases after the gang into the desert. He is joined by a young American boy, Sam, whose father was killed by the gang leader. The group picks up a variety of people along the way to New Mexico. Sam And The Womp
Sam and the Womp are a British pop group consisting of trumpeter Sam Ritchie and Dutch-born vocalist Bloem de Ligny, also known as Lady Oo. The band's music mixes traditional elements of Balkan music with modern dub and drum 'n' bass elements. From its formation in 2009 to 2014, the band also included producer Aaron "Audio" Horn, the son of musician and producer Trevor Horn. The group's debut single " Bom Bom" was released as a digital download on 19 August 2012, and hit number one on the UK Singles Chart. It has sold over a million copies worldwide.
