Zwan
Zwan was an American alternative rock supergroup formed in 2001 by lead guitarist/vocalist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin (both of the Smashing Pumpkins). Other members included bassist Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle), plus guitarists David Pajo (Slint) and Matt Sweeney ( Chavez). The band released only one album, '' Mary Star of the Sea'' (2003), before breaking up acrimoniously that year during their world tour to promote the album. Following the disbanding, Corgan released a solo album, ''TheFutureEmbrace'' before reforming the Smashing Pumpkins in 2005, with Chamberlin joining in 2006. Despite allusions to multiple albums' worth of material written by band members, no further material has surfaced beyond their only studio album, and none of the material has been revisited in performances by any of the members outside of a brief 2017 tour by Corgan. Mary Star Of The Sea (album)
''Mary Star of the Sea'' is the only studio album by American alternative rock band Zwan, released on January 28, 2003 on Reprise (February 10 in the UK). Produced by frontman Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud, the album was supported by the singles " Honestly" and "Lyric". The album debuted at number 3 in the US, selling 90,000 copies in its first week,Martens, Todd"Dixie Chicks Return 'Home' to No. 1" billboard.com. February 5, 2003. and over 250,000 copies by the time of the band's break-up later that year. Described by Corgan as "the great lost Pumpkins record", the album's music was spearheaded by Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Billy Corgan
William Patrick Corgan Jr. (born March 17, 1967) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and professional wrestling promoter. He is best known as the co-founder, lead guitarist, primary songwriter, singer, and only constant member of alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. Corgan is credited with helping popularize the alternative rock genre. He has also been the owner and promoter of the National Wrestling Alliance since 2017. Matt Sweeney
Matt Sweeney (born July 2, 1969) is an American musician and record producer best known as a guitarist of Skunk, Chavez, and supergroup Zwan. Early life and education Sweeney was born in New Jersey. His father was John D. Sweeney, a professor of Medieval English at Seton Hall University who was also an avid musician. His mother, Katharine Sweeney Hayden, is a federal judge. Sweeney's parents divorced after 20 years of marriage. He has an older brother, Gregory Sweeney, who is a musician who works on the TV show ''Kitchen Nightmares.'' Jimmy Chamberlin
James Joseph Chamberlin (born June 10, 1964) is an American drummer and record producer. Described as "one of the most powerful drummers in rock," he is best known as the drummer for the alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. Following the 2000 breakup of the band, Chamberlin joined Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan in the Supergroup (music), supergroup Zwan and also formed his own current group, the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. In late 2005, Chamberlin joined Corgan in reforming Smashing Pumpkins; he eventually left the group in March 2009, though he returned again in 2015 for a summer tour, and has officially performed with the band since then. Paz Lenchantin (born December 12, 1973) is an Argentine-American musician. She is best known for having been the bass guitarist and backing vocalist of the alternative rock band Pixies (band), Pixies, playing with the band and recording three studio albums between 2013 and 2024. Prior to joining Pixies, Lenchantin was a member of Entrance (musician), Entrance, A Perfect Circle, Silver Jews and Zwan. David Pajo (born June 25, 1968) is an American musician. He has played a wide variety of music, loosely fitting into several other genres such as hardcore punk, math rock, post-rock, electronica, folk rock and indie pop. Though a multi-instrumentalist (including guitar, bass guitar, banjo and drums), he is best known for his guitar work, most notably with Slint. Chavez (band)
Chavez is an American band from New York City, formed in 1993. After a period of inactivity, the band re-formed in 2006. They released two independent non-charting albums in the mid-1990s. Influenced by a wide variety of rock bands, including the Jesus Lizard, Blue Öyster Cult, and Cheap Trick, Chavez utilizes angular, asymmetrical riffs and dramatic dynamic shifts. The band is fronted by guitarist Matt Sweeney, who was previously a member of Skunk and Wider, and played with Guided by Voices. Skunk (band)
Skunk was an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Maplewood, New Jersey. During the group's existence Skunk released two albums on Twin/Tone Records; 1989's ''Last American Virgin'' and 1991's ''Laid''. Skunk was the first band of now respected session guitarist Matt Sweeney, who after their breakup went on to form New York City math rock quartet Chavez, and drummer Claude Coleman, Jr., best known for his decades long tenure playing with Ween. Also in the band for its entire history was bassist Matt Quigley, who later went on to form the art-pop group Vaganza.
