Zuia
Zuia () is a town and Municipalities of Spain, municipality located in the province of Álava, in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, northern Spain. History The first mention of the Zuia Valley is in the document from the year 1025 (though some authors argue that it is posterior, probably twelfth century), a document conserved in the Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla, Monastery of San Millán (La Rioja (Spain), La Rioja). The document states that every ten neighbors must deliver a grating iron to a religious institution; according to the document, nine bars correspond to Zuia, 13 to Zigoitia, 12 to Kuartango, etc. In 1752, after repeated attempts, the king approved the establishment of a highway through the valley of Zuia to facilitate communication between Vitoria and Bilbao. Sanctuary Of Our Lady Of Oro
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Oro (, ) is a place of worship in the Zuia Valley of northern Spain. It is about from Murgia, Álava, Murgia, in the center of the valley. Its altitude is above sea level. From Murgia, the road towards Vitoriano reaches the sanctuary. The first known document mentioning it dates to 1138. History A prehistoric settlement was found at the site in 1918 by Jose Migel Barandiaran. Local archeologists conducted four excavations from 1964 to 1967, and found evidence of human habitation in three eras. The oldest dates to the late Bronze Age Europe, Bronze Age (850-700 BC). A later community inhabited the area from 450 to 350 BC, followed by settlement during the later Western Roman Empire, Roman Empire. The sanctuary probably dates from the late 11th century to the 12th century, although nothing remains from the original Romanesque architecture, Romanesque church.
